F1 Rejects Forum Ratings 2012

Postby QuickYoda41 » 09 Mar 2012, 22:49

The start if the 2012 F1 season is very close now (yaaaaaay). My idea is that after each race we will rate the performance of the drivers, and from the average points we'll see the real :) result of the race.

The rules are very simple:
- The rating thread for each race will be opened some time after the chequered flag has been waved. The next 100 hours will be for the ratings to post. Then I will post the results and the standings.
- The way of rating: you can choose from a 1-10 scale (10 being the best), and no half points, please, be strong and able to decide! You're more than welcome to add some comments to your ratings, but it's not necessary in order for your ratings to be counted.
- The result of the race: Surprisingly  , the driver with a higher average finishes higher. Average scores will be rounded to hundredths. If two or more drivers have the same average score:
1. A driver who was a reject before the race finishes higher than already unrejectified drivers.
2. From drivers having the same status before the race, the order will be the same as in the official F1 race results.
- The championship: first 10 will get points in the system of 20-15-11-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. I will also lead season average for the drivers, it'll be interesting to see the connection between the two.

So, what do you think, are you ready to do this? :) Any suggestions are also welcome and will be considered.

Sounds like an interesting idea - although I think it'd make more sense to use the F1 points system.

Great idea. And I agree it would make more sense to use the current points system.

Thanks for the first comments.

Points system is changed then to the current F1-system.

It would be interesting if we added this to the Predicament Predictions game as a new topic.

Please, excuse me for being naive, but how does this vary from IIDOTR and ROTR? Surely whoever comes first and last in this would also be up for these other awards already? :?

You have a point with ROTR, but IIDOTR is for highlighting the 'where the hell did that come from?' performances, such as Onyx's podium and Moreno qualifying the Andrea Moda. Vettel would've probably won quite a few of these last year, but I don't recall him winning IIDOTR once, because we expected him to dominate 90% of the time last year.

Well, ROTR is also related to expectations, so your argument holds true for it as well. I think in such a rating, Karthikeyan would have finished last a few times last year and how often was he Reject Of The Race?

Karthikeyan probably came close to a ROTR award after his performance in Valencia after he finished so far behind Liuzzi , although it was Tilke who was given the award in the end. It would perhaps be harsh on people like Karthikeyan though - his performance last year wasn't the best, but on the whole he did outperform the expectations that most had of him before the season (sometimes outperforming Liuzzi and putting in a surprisingly strong showing against Ricciardo).

THis wouldn't be related to the official Reject Of The race though would it? Since a lot of the time it's something other than a driver that gets it, such as teams/engines/tyre manufacturers/Race Control/Bernie Ecclestone etc. :)

Apart from arguments other already mentioned:

- F1 is not just about firsts and lasts - I'm a Heidfeld-fan, remember?
- IIDOTR and ROTR are awards for separate races, the ratings will build up standings which we don't have from the awards.

So, we got this thing started. Thanks for everyone who rated. 26 people rated, 2 of them only about half of the field, but as we go for average in the end, it's not necessary to have the same number of ratings for each driver.

Let's see the standings and other numbers!

Championship standings after 1 race:

1. Jenson Button 25 pts
2. Fernando Alonso 18
3. Kamui Kobayashi 15
4. Sergio Perez 12
5. Sebastian Vettel 10
6. Kimi Räikkönen 8
7. Daniel Ricciardo 6
8. Michael Schumacher 4
9. Lewis Hamilton 2
10. Mark Webber 1

Season average:

1. Jenson Button 9,67
2. Fernando Alonso 8,33
3. Kamui Kobayashi 7,94
4. Sergio Perez 7,90
5. Sebastian Vettel 7,87
6. Kimi Räikkönen 7,12
7. Daniel Ricciardo 7,08
8. Michael Schumacher 7,08
9. Lewis Hamilton 7,06
10. Mark Webber 6,96
11. Pastor Maldonado 6,69
12. Romain Grosjean 6,20
13. Jean-Eric Vergne 6,04
14. Timo Glock 6,04
15. Paul di Resta 5,83
16. Nico Hülkenberg 5,32
17. Nico Rosberg 5,13
18. Heikki Kovalainen 5,00
19. Vitaly Petrov 4,85
20. Charles Pic 4,65
21. Bruno Senna 4,23
22. Felipe Massa 2,30

Average of the race: 6,33
There'll be a ranking of the races throughout the whole season. Mind you, the highest scoring races won't necessarily be the most entertaining to watch; many times mistakes can make races more interesting.

Most lenient rater of Round 1: James1978 with an average of 6,95
Strictest rater of Round 1: The Masked Lapwing with an average of 5,59

I'll soon edit my post in the R1 Ratings topic, so you can see how ratings ranged for each driver.

For the next round:

I won't be home at Sunday, so will only watch the race on Monday. That means I will avoid this forum, as well. Obviously, you don't have to wait for me to start rating. Anyone who can't keep his ratings in himself/herself can open the thread for R2 provided he/she
- waits for the chequered flag to be waved
- states the rules in the opening post (1-10 scale, no half points)
- provides the drivers' list in order of car number in the opening thread to be followed.

As you have already seen, DNQd drivers are not te be rated.

All this stats will be far more interesting after a couple of races. :) Also, the standings aren't going to be this far from the season average, I suppose.

Just to notify you, I won't be around in the hours after the race, so feel free to open a rating thread for the Canadian race.

Also, I ask everyone to keep the car-number based order in their rating post, it's way easier for me that way to work out the results.

Question - In Round 8 (European GP) Glock was a DNS (although technically a DNQ) and is not rated at all. In Round 9 (British GP), Petrov failed to make it to the grid and 7 people including myself out of 20 rated him NA as he was a DNS. So what is the rule for rating someone who DNSed? It seems that DNQs do not get rated.

Petrov actually made it to the grid and started in last place. He did one very slow lap before returning to the pits to retire. So he actually competed in the race. The reason why I gave a N/A is it's hardly Petrov's fault if the car fails before the race and he is unable to do anything about it.

Nah. The engine blew up on the sighting lap half an hour before the start and we didn't see either Caterham for the rest of the afternoon after that point.

It's hard to find the line who should or shouldn't be rated, but as more than half of the raters actually gave a mark to Petrov, he was included in the result. Also, he was set to compete in the race, just had a really early problem with the car. Glock and the HRTs in Australia were never to compete on Sunday, so they weren't included in the list.

Maybe it should be at least starting the race, as the Petrov marks did range from 1 to 8 (just because he outqualified Kovi....) which seems quite a wide margin for someone who failed to even start the warm up lap... I am sure if his car failed as he started he would have got a much lower rating then he did so. If you took all the NAs and marked them as 1, then the average would fall to 3.5...

I think, his ratings would had been quite the same had his engine failed on the 2nd lap. In Monaco, De La Rosa was rated really high just for his qualifying efforts after Maldonado rammed into him.

As for the big range, some finished drivers also had similar after a few races.

By scoring a point, he means finishing in the top ten on average ratings for a race ;)
