Ahh, the scene of my first degree course! A lovely area of which I am fond. Some beautiful walks along the Thames. I know people who enjoy waalking along the river from Kingston Bridge to Richmond, but I prefer the walk to Hampton Court Palace.

That is also my prefered choice. The views gets even better the closer you get to Guildford (as do the pubs ;) ) since it winds through National Park woodland. Although you need a cycle to get that far in a day.

How was your road trip down to Monaco & Monza? I remember when I last spoke to you around April last year about it, you had a bit of a tight schedule to stick to?

Ah yes, last September. A brilliant trip. Dehydration in the car was a slight problem, as it was hot and we had long distances to travel, so we were not wanting to stop too often for 'comfort' breaks, so probably not drinking quite enough. First day was Calais to Nice, left 9 am, arrived close to midnight, having detoured to my 'other' uni town of Avignon (I studied French so spent a year in Avignon as part of my four-year Kingston degree). The second day was more relaxing, giving us a chance to drive through Monaco (kept trying to get to the GP track, but several routes towards the Casino and Portier seemed shut off by les Gendarmes, so couldn't do that in the end. Also drove at least half of the Col de Turini, up to the mountain top. Coming down the mountain, I drove at a pace that I was comfortable doing, when a local then caught up quickly. I let him past then was able to follow at his pace, because I could see what was possible (he was in a small French hatchback, not done up; I was in my turbo-diesel Beemer Mini Cooper). Relaxing time in San Marino then the south of Italy then Monza. Saw Liuzzi get his HRT into the midfield at the start of the race, and Mark Webber introduce his front wing to Massa's gearbox. Drove through Switzerland to a stay in Eastern France - absolutely fantastic scenery along Switzerland's autostrada/bahnen/routes; it'll be a long time until I forget that picturesque journey (plus driving through the St Gotthard tunnel!). So yes, lots and lots of driving, getting back just 36 hours before starting at yet another university - Brunel, West London. But highly enjoyable and I would like to repeat my Eurotrip, but maybe experience it differently next time by going with friends instead of family.

(Sorry for the length of the paragraph, it's getting late, I have just returned from a weekend away with the university's Christian Union, driving the minibus; so I'm tired and thinking of my 9 am lecture tomorrow...) Life as a mature student - great, isn't it!

I don't know, you could be doing some maths assignments on logarithims and exponential graphs, and writing commentaries for your English coursework. Sounds a lot more fun 8-)

What a waste of a Sunday :(
The 1990s were better. Fact. And you bloody well know it.

Murray Walker: There's a car coming into the pits now, they're so unreliable with all those electronics on board.

Wow, sounds like you had a great trip & were well seated at the GP. I'm very jealous indeed!

Did you ever go the Jean Alesi cafe / bar when you were in Avignon? there's some great Alesi memorabilia in their (stuff like his 2000 Prost overalls, His Ferrari Steering wheel & some great photos). When I was last there I got pretty drunk on Rose wine & got into a 'heated debate' with the owner about Prost & Senna (he's a Senna fan). Funnily enough I didn't get any more 'drinks on the house' afterwards. All good fun though.

Agree that there is some fantastic scenery around Switzerland & Eastern France. Particularly the roads around Aberville & Grenoble (wide, fast & flowing - through stunning valleys). They are amongst my favourite. Although when you have your next Euro trip I would defentitaly recommend taking a RWD car (assuming the Mini Cooper is a FWD car). Believe me on those twisty mountain roads, RWD just comes alive & is so much fun...especially flooring it out of tight hairpin bends & catching the oversteer on the exit. Or feeling the backend get loose on those fast downhill corners (where the FWD cars tend to understeer). It doesn't have to be massively powerful or expensive either. I have a Mazda MX5 & that's perfect for those roads (my old housemate had a Lotus Elise & that was out of this world). You could probably hire one out for a fairly reasonable sum. Obviously depends on your budget though but I would be happy to give you more advice if/when you need it.

Huh? I am ashamed to say I don't know anything about a Jean Alesi cafe/bar in Avignon! Where abouts in town in it? Sounds as if it is definitely worth a visit. Of course Avignon is famous for being/having been Jean Alesi's home town. I know he once tried to get a DTM street race to Avignon in about 2004/5 (just outside the city ramparts, to the west) but nothing came of it.

The Mini Cooper is indeed FWD. As for a choice of RWD cars, I would love to do the trip in a DeLorean - I am a BTTF fan and I am sorely tempted to get one as and when I have the opportunity. Plus paying the continental road tolls would be a bit easier as the driver would be on the 'correct' side of the car for the tolls....

Defientialy worth a visit IMO. Also if you ask the owner nicely enough, He'll introduce to Jean (if Jean is in town of couse).

Don't know an awful alot on how a Delorean's would handle unfortanely, all I know that it was a cool looking car in Back to the Future films. But RWD is well worth the investment, for the additional fun you will have on those mountain roads. Put it like this, at first I needed convincing as I couldn't believe that the difference would be that much. Now having made the step, I'm mightly glad I did!. Well worth every penny.

Yeah, can work out where in town that is. Most of the cafes and restaurants that I was aware of in Avignon are along Cours Jean Jaures/Rue de la Republique/Place de l'Horloge (sp?) (plus one in the gardens by the Palais des Papes). Next time I end up in Avignon, I'll check it out!

6 months after I first got my Mini, somebody crashed into the back of it, so I ended up with a BMW 3-series for a fortnight while it was being repairs. But I never drove it hard enough to really feel the difference (partly because of the unfamiliarity of the car, plus the size difference, etc.). But a mountain route would certainly do it! And the reason for the DeLorean is because it looks cool rather than how it handles, but it would be a cool road trip to find out!

Greetings from Scotland. I am a long time fan of the F1 Rejects website, but have somehow only just found this forum. Although I still watch every GP my main interest is in the sport's history and I have a soft spot for F1's lesser lights. It is only right that their mediocrity be celebrated. I am currently working on a biography of the late Scottish F1 and Indycar driver Jim Crawford. I'm from the same town as Jim and he was something of a hero of mine growing up. He only made two GP starts - in a prehistoric Lotus 72 - after a handful of Formula Atlantic and Libre races, but later became a much respected racer in the US. Plus, he was a very nice guy. I look forward to spending far too much time here :D

Anyway, welcome to the forum my friend :)

Ah, Gretna. Their first ever Scottish league game was against us at our ground. If I remember correctly they beat us 7-1! The stock car racing is pretty good fun. All sorts of shapes and sizes, and that's just the drivers. I remember going as a kid and seeing a car go off and crash into the goalposts, snapping them.

I don't actually mind East Fife, or Raith for that matter. It's just those pesky townies from Dunfermline. The champagne's on ice for when they get relegated

Hello everyone long time lurker first time caller here. Also currently lacking a functioning comma key which is why my sentences might sound a little breathless. I started watching Formula One in the mid 90s but what really got me into the rejects was some Top Trumps (a popular card game) we had which featured cars of the 1992 season. While the McLarens and the Williams cars were fine what I really liked was looking at the Fondmetals Minardis Dallaras and Venturis (sadly Andrea Moda were too rejectful to even get on a card). These days my favourite team is HRT; I think they're the most interesting team in recent years. Currently living in Reading (home of Fittipaldi Automotive and apparently Ayrton Senna) where I'm at university.

I also post under this username at GPM2World and Engineering F1 so if anyone knows me from there hello (I know some GPM2World members are here!)

Cool to see you here as well, and welcome aboard! You'll probably soon see that this is among the better F1 forums, people are (usually) nice to each other, and very rarely get into serious arguments.

Ahh, the scene of my first degree course! A lovely area of which I am fond. Some beautiful walks along the Thames. I know people who enjoy waalking along the river from Kingston Bridge to Richmond, but I prefer the walk to Hampton Court Palace.

No way! I did the 3rd year of my Engineering degree at Kingston University! Roehampton Vale site! I lived in New Malden, though, in a nice huge 6-bedroom house that never had less than 8 people. Good fun. It was an easy commute from New Malden to Roehampton Vale, pretty much all on the A3.

Yeah, stock-car racing at the Racewall can get pretty mental. And just to give full disclosure up front...I'm an East Fife fan

Cowdenbeath, East Fife, Gretna (back in the day). My beloved Birmingham would demolish them lot.

It's not very often I get to say that.

It's like Sauber vs HRT, EuroBrun, Coloni or a team of that level.

I don't know, you could be doing some maths assignments on logarithims and exponential graphs, and writing commentaries for your English coursework. Sounds a lot more fun 8-)

What a waste of a Sunday :(

Yeah, I don't have any of that because, remember, I'm the youngest  :P

Hi, thought I'd quickly introduce myself. :)
I've been following this site on and off now for almost a year, and it certainly looks like a nice place to discuss F1 (and Motorsport in general). Mainly interested in past F1 stuff, although well over 10 years since I first got interested in Motorsport, I've been following F1 very closley, even if Sky and their cronies have made viewing F1 in the UK very difficult

I did initially sign up to the forums about half a year ago, but the name of the account has completley passed my mind.

Well, you could now be doing maths assignments on integrating functions and hypothesis tests, or practicing the ridiculously-overcomplicated AS-AD graphs we're forced to learn about in Economics. You've got all that to look forward to when you start the Canadian equivalent of AS-levels...

And savour that youngest forum member title, for it won't last forever...

The 1990s were better. Fact. And you bloody well know it.

Murray Walker: There's a car coming into the pits now, they're so unreliable with all those electronics on board.
James Hunt: Actually, Murray, one of his wheels has just fallen off...

New Malden - the largest population of Koreans outside of Korea! I lived in Surbiton while studying at the Penrhyn Road site of Kingston Uni.

You cay you studied for your third year at Kingston - where did you spend the first two years?
