Still, what can I do to prevent this for 1999?

And before I forget, Lola will resign Magnussen (if he is fit enough to drive) and Unser for 1998.

Would Lola like the competitive Alfa Romeo engines?

No thank you, we already have Mercedes engines for next season. (How do you know the Alfas are competitive???? )

Mercedes would like to convince Arrows to keep the Mercedes engine for 1998. Why they'll have the same engines as Gauthier and Lola, they'll get decent enough support by Mercedes. Not only in terms of works drivers, but also in equipment. The same offer goes for Lola and Gauthier.

IBR are still looking for a new engine partner for next year. We have no intention of keeping these donkey Yamaha engines which are as crook as a one legged emu. We are not interested in year old engines, only current spec.

The Champions' Council would like to see Al Melling make IBR a favourable offer for the new version of the Engine Of Champions for 1998 and inform us on how development is going.

Arrows is flattered by Mercedes' attempts to get us to re-sign. However, due to the tight nature of the midfield in F1, we feel a switch to BMW will be beneficial. We are proud to announce that from next season on, Arrows will operate as a semi-works BMW team.

News Update:

-BMW to enter for 1998 with Arrows.
BMW have entered a "semi-works" partnership with the Arrows Formula 1 team, it is believed that the current line up of Damon Hill and Alex Wurz will also be the line up for next season. Mercedes were disappointed with this announcement though have publically said they would be willing to accept Arrows back should the deal fall through.

-"No to Alfa Romeo!" say IBR.
New prospective engine supplier Alfa Romeo attempted to strike a deal with IBR, whom as of yet have no confirmed engine supplier for next season, but negotiations failed. Alfa reportedly gave IBR a take it or leave it offer during early discussion and such a move offended the team.

-No change at Lola.
After Lola teams successful debut season, the team has confirmed they will enter next season with an unchanged driver and engine line up, partnering Mercedes once again.

Round 15/16. Suzuka.

The penultimate Qualifying round of the season and the Japanese Grand Prix of Suzuka. Mika Hakkinen and Jan Magnussen return after their one race illness/injury break.

Image

Villeneuve is refusing to give up and secures yet another pole position ahead of a resurgent Benetton team and team mate Montoya. Al Unser has an amazing session and sticks his Lola in 5th place, obviously riding a high from his earlier podium.
Ferrari have a poor session but could theoretically secure both championships at this race, in fact they are almost certain to secure the constructors title here. Arrows are next with Gauthier a clear 3rd best of the Mercedes team, very unusual for them. Ralf Schumacher drove the lap of his life to split the Gauthier cars and Jean Alesi seems to be getting a grip on his Sauber. Alain Prost is outside the 107% again, but is spared by the usual Marques and Lavaggi DNQ and the not so usual Berger DNQ!

Villeneuve Wins again, Schumacher only 5th! Ferrari Constructors Champion!

Image

The Drivers Title fight ignites just as the Constructors championship closes. Jaques Villeneuve dominated the Japanese Grand Prix and despite the huge track, managed to lap every single car at least once! However Williams will rue their mid season form, it is clear the Williams has been the car to beat all season, and so many silly errors from both drivers. Eddie Irvine drove well to secure 2nd, even leading at one stage, running a heavier fuel load then the Williams but ultimatley could not hang on to Villeneuve. Montoya had an early scare, facing a drive through penalty for allegedly jumping the start. This Penalty dropped Montoya behind Panis and down to 10th. However this only seemed to spur Montoya on and his pace was such that he managed to work his way past cars until eventually he was crawling all over the back of the Unser/Ferrari fight, it only took a few more laps and he was ahead of them all.

Mika Hakkinen however did something rather controversial, on lap 30 he overtook team mate Michael Schumacher and Unser in a single move, as the German was trying to overtake Unser Hakkinen snuck past the pair! once past Hakkinen never gave up the inter team lead and even when Michael, fresh from passing the Lola, was desperate to pass the Finn Hakkinen just would not budge, it will be interesting how Ferrari respond to this. Unser was driving fairly well all race, not holding up cars as was predicted, indeed during the early stint on high fuel fresh tires the Lola was the quicker of the cars, however tire wear was a big issue for Lola and it began to struggle, so much so that Damon HIll was able to deny Lola points with little more then 10 laps remaining passing Unser to take the final point.

Greg Moore stalled the car early on in the 2nd race in a row where Gauthier no score as Panis was left in a lonley 8th. Ralf Schumacher proved qualy was no fluke, hanging with the Frenchman all race before spinning off, Badoer sank in the race yet again and with 1 race left, looks set to score 0 points this season whilst the Nissan runners again struggled.

With one round remaining of the Championship Michael Schumacher holds a 6 point lead over Villeneuve. Though the margin sounds large, if Villeneuve wins the next race Michael Schumacher would have to finish 2nd or else lose the championship, Mika Hakkinen beating Schumacher today could be very costly, though today Ferrari celebrate.

Drivers Top 5
1.Michael Schumacher 77
2.Jaques Villeneuve 71
3.Mika Hakkinen 52
4.JP.Montoya 38
5.Eddie Irvine 36

Whilst Ferrari celebrate the constructors, Benetton (With just Irvine's points!) have a chance of overtaking Gauthier for 3rd, lying just 5 points behind, another 2nd place for Irvine and a Gauthier no score would do it!
Constructors
1.Ferrari 129 (Champions)
2.Williams 109
3.Gauthier 41
4.Benetton 36
5.Lola 22

Nissan will re-sign Fontana for next season, and hire Craig Lowndes to drive the second car. Test driver is yet to be confirmed. Nissan are also willing to supply both Sauber and Jordan with engines again next season.

Jordan will gladly accept to keep Nissan engines.

After Berger failure to qualify, he admitted himself that his time was up, and he'll go into retirement. Shinji Nakano will take his place as second driver alongside Giancarlo Fisichella. The test driver will be decided at a later date.

It's not actually an editing tool, but merely something which calculates whether or not the upgrades are successful. Any engine editing must still be made through raw hex-editing because every save game differs slightly from another, and I don't know how to code it so that it can find the correct values from different places.

If you still want it you can get it here: http://www.mediafire.com/?6b8s456w0ptua6g . I'll post the rules concerning the engine upgrades in a few hours, once I get back from a job interview. Then you can start asking engine manufacturers on what upgrades (and how large) they want and run them through the calculator, then give the results and the current savegame to me so that I can hex-edit them in.

Well, our line-up for 1998 is as follows:
1. Alain Prost
2. Tony Kanaan
TD. Ralf Schumacher

Unless Jacques Villeneuve fails to win the championship and Williams follow through with their threat and sack him. In that case, we'd try to hire him to drive together with Prost, delaying Kanaan's F1 debut to 1999.

The Bowtie is taking a trip to Europe. The mighty American automotive giants at GM are exporting their legendary Chevrolet brand to the European Form'la One Cup, where the Detroit built cars will kick those cheese-eating surrender monkeys into next week.

The drivers will be two of America's proudest citizens. Don Pentecost is a diamond in the rough, the blue collar hero who will lead the Chevrolet team in his debut season, with twice Winston Cup champion Jeff Gordon partnering him in the second seat.

Chevrolet's all new V8 for Formula One has a secret weapon, an alternative energy solution that will power the car to winning every race in the 1998 season. This will make Chevrolet the only team with a sustainable emissons-free engine in motorsport.

Holy crap, this is going to be epic!

Right, the engine upgrade system is as follows:
  • The more powerful the engine currently is, the harder it is to succesfully upgrade the engine. Similarly, engines that are already light are harder to make lighter.
  • Smaller upgrades have a higher chance of succeeding than bigger ones. These are included in the same calculation as the current power or weight, so big upgrades are easier for the less powerful and/or heavier engines, while more advanced engines should aim for smaller improvements.
  • Upgrades may be smaller than desired or fail completely - this is because of an additional random factor. Again, the more powerful and/or lighter the engine is, the greater are the chances of failure.
  • Upgrades are capped at +20 BHP and -10kg.

Shadaza, could you post the current power and weight of each engine so that the manufacturers can decide what to upgrade and how much?

Williams would like to renew their partnership with Renault if possible. Unless they are renamed Mecachrome. It would also like to resign with Montoya and whoever it is that we currently have as test driver.

Very well, could I add that engines that ran multiple manufacturers (Mercedes and Nissan 3 teams each) Get more/bigger upgrades to signify the extra effort/income and engines that are not owned by anybody (If you need the reference it is on page 1) do not get upgrades.

Engine List:
Renault: 720BHP 135KG
Tristan/Yameha: 670, 125KG
Ford VJ Zetec: 680, 130kg
Mugen-Honda: 685, 130
Hart:660, 127
Lamborghini/Chevrolet:730, 157
Ferrari:710, 140KG
BMW/Illmor: Undecided (Will be higher then base Illmor engine)
Peugeot: 695, 133
Honda: 720, 153
Alfa Romeo/Petronas: 690, 130
Mercedes:705,123KG
Ford HB: 660, 135
Ford ED4:674, 130
Nissan:650, 110
Almelling/Champions:650/130

This list is all pre upgrade. When upgrades get enforced, I will not update this list until this point at the end of next season. Think of it as being one move behind when trying to decide on an engine.

Yes, because it had Juan Pablo Montoya.
