ROUND 6 - 1993 MONACO GRAND PRIX - Monte Carlo

QUALIFYING
The first DNQ of my career, as I crashed heavily at the Swimming Pool chicane and was unable to set a lap time. Lola were also a pleasant surprise, and for once, they clearly weren't the slowest cars on the grid. That distinction probably went to Minardi who were 23rd and 24th. Alboreto qualified a commendable 17th and Badoer was 19th. Derek Warwick had hydraulic troubles and probably only made the grid thanks to my crash.

1. Ayrton Senna 1.20.385
2. Alain Prost 1.20.459
3. Damon Hill 1.20.527

18. Andrea De Cesaris 1.22.134

24. Fabrizio Barbazza 1.23.065
25. Derek Warwick 1.25.368
DNQ Jack Christoperson No Time

RACE
The race started, and Senna got the perfect start whilst Patrese overtook both Berger and Hill. Barbazza and Comas had a first lap collision near Loews Hairpin. The Lolas were both out early as well as Andrea De Cesaris. No points for Tyrrell then. After 10 laps, the order was Senna, Prost, Patrese, Hill, Berger, Herbert, Brundle and Schumacher. Hill suffered an engine failure and was then out of the race. Michael Andretti looked out of the hunt for points as well as he spun, lost his front wing and had to pit. The attrition rate was so high, that after 60 laps, there were only 10 runners. The order at that point was Senna, Prost, Patrese, Herbert, Brundle, Wendlinger, Alliot, Barrichello, Fittipaldi and Andretti. Barrichello was the next to drop out. Andretti didn't last much longer as he ran wide and broke his suspension. The final driver to drop out before the 90% mark was Alliot. Johnny Herbert then retired with an engine failure, he was classified 7th. This ensured Minardi's first point of the season. Point became points as Brundle then suffered a mechanical problem. After a highly attritional race, Senna took the chequered flag ahead of Prost. Despite not finishing, Brundle picked up a point for 6th as he was classified and he completed over 90% race distance.

1. Ayrton Senna 1hr 53m 24.763s
2. Alain Prost 24.264s
3. Riccardo Patrese +59.948s
4. Karl Wendlinger +1 Lap
5. Christian Fittipaldi +2 Laps

NC Andrea De Cesaris +72 Laps

REJECT OF THE RACE: Jack Christopherson - Failed to qualify. Simple as.

ROUND 7 - 1993 CANADIAN GRAND PRIX - Montreal

QUALIFYING
Best qualifying of the year, as De Cesaris struggled, I revelled in the circuit that I love the most. A top 6 qualifying position was my reward for my efforts, just in between the Ligiers. Lola were mired to the back again whilst Larrousse, Minardi and Footwork struggled. Michele Alboreto beat Luca Badoer for the final qualifying spot. I was faster than Michael Schumacher in the Benetton who started down in 9th.

1. Alain Prost 1.30.125
2. Damon Hill 1.30.274
3. Ayrton Senna 1.30.731

5. Mark Blundell 1.31.386
6. Jack Christopherson 1.31.452
7. Martin Brundle 1.31.757

19. Andrea De Cesaris 1.33.567

25. Michele Alboreto 1.34.929
DNQ Luca Badoer 1.35.378

RACE
My start was decent enough, Damon Hill spun off at the start of the race and ended up at the back. Rubens Barrichello moved up a place at the expense of Brundle. The order after one lap was Prost, Senna, Patrese, Blundell, Christopherson, Barrichello, Alesi, Warwick, Berger and Lehto. Riccardo Patrese was the first retirement as his Ford engine failed him when challenging for 2nd place. 4th place was mine, the attrition rate was not as high as before but I lost out after pitting after 20 laps. I lost out to Alesi who made up a lot of ground who even jumped Barrichello. Jordan was set to score their first point of the season, leaving Lola set to be the only team in 1993 so far without any points. The race was fairly uneventful as some backmarkers dropped out, but Prost won once again to extend his championship lead even further as I picked up my first points of the season. Lotus were extremely anonymous all weekend and both drivers retired with brake failure, this gives them Reject of the Race.

1. Alain Prost 1hr 40m 23.462s
2. Ayrton Senna +41.266s
3. Jean Alesi +42.865s
4. Mark Blundell +47.695s
5. Jack Christopherson +55.273s
6. Rubens Barrichello +1m 02.226s
7. JJ Lehto +1 Lap
8. Andrea De Cesaris +1 Lap
9. Karl Wendlinger +1 Lap
10. Aguri Suzuki +2 Laps
11. Fabrizio Barbazza +2 Laps
12. Philippe Alliot +2 Laps

REJECT OF THE RACE: Lotus - Were they actually there?

ROUND 8 - 1993 FRENCH GRAND PRIX - Magny Cours

I just thought i'd add now that doing screenshots slows rFactor right down, it's not as bad as on GP4, so for 94 and 95, you'll get screenshots.

QUALIFYING
Ligier were extremely quick on their home soil. Martin Brundle in particular, snatching second on the grid from Ayrton Senna. Prost once again got pole position but Brundle was quite close. I was provisionally 16th, until my engine blew on my last flying lap, relegating me to 21st. Mark Blundell also impressed along with Johnny Herbert. The top 10 were Prost, Brundle, Senna, Hill, Blundell, Herbert, Alesi, Berger, Schumacher and Patrese. Alboreto once again DNQd whilst Badoer actually beat Boutsen to 24th spot on the grid.

1. Alain Prost 1.17.273
2. Martin Brundle 1.17.489
3. Ayrton Senna 1.17.926

11. Andrea De Cesaris 1.19.602

20. Erik Comas 1.20.376
21. Jack Christopherson 1.20.651
22. Rubens Barrichello 1.20.893

25. Thierry Boutsen 1.22.237
DNQ Michele Alboreto 1.22.604

RACE
I passed Erik Comas at the start of the race, so for once I actually gained positions. Prost made a good start whilst Senna jumped Brundle at the start. On Lap 2, I made a move on Warwick but approximately 20 seconds later, I crashed into Zanardi who spun after driving over a kerb. Neither driver will be sanctioned for the incident. Meanwhile on Lap 13, Alain Prost fell foul to an engine failure, thus handing Senna the lead. The first round of pitstops mostly took place on Laps 20-23. Afterwards, the order was Senna, Brundle, Hill, Herbert, Schumacher, Alesi, Patrese and De Cesaris. De Cesaris looked good for points, this was a rare occasion for the team in 1993. Hill had a suspension failure on Lap 39, promoting Herbert to 3rd. JJ Lehto opted for a one-stop strategy and it looked like it was going to pay off. Mark Blundell retired from 4th with a transmission fault. Senna then cruised to the finish. Andrea De Cesaris took another point for Tyrrell with 6th, whilst Minardi were the only team to bring both cars home.

1. Ayrton Senna 1hr 36m 25.127s
2. Martin Brundle +14.276s
3. Johnny Herbert +31.285s
4. Michael Schumacher +33.023s
5. JJ Lehto +42.660s
6. Andrea De Cesaris +56.877s
7. Rubens Barrichello +1m 04.247s
8. Derek Warwick +1 Lap
9. Erik Comas +2 Laps
10. Christian Fittipaldi +3 Laps
11. Fabrizio Barbazza +3 Laps
12. Luca Badoer +5 Laps

NC Jack Christopherson +71 Laps

REJECT OF THE RACE: Williams - Double retirement uncharacteristic of the team's dominance

ROUND 9 - 1993 BRITISH GRAND PRIX - Silverstone

PRE-RACE

The first driver change of the season, Thierry Boutsen announces his retirement with immediate effect. Eddie Irvine will replace him for the rest of the season. In the McLaren garage, Michael Andretti is under some pressure to start performing or test driver Mika Hakkinen.

QUALIFYING
Ayrton Senna was extremely disappointing in qualifying, behind Michael Andretti and not even inside the top 6. Qualifying was dominated my Williams and Benetton. Despite my excellent result here in 1991, I knew it wasn't a strong track of mine, especially with the understeer in the first half of the lap. However, I strung together a good lap and comfortably outqualified in 14th. ADC was 21st, whilst Alboreto once again DNQd, although this time, he was less than a tenth off making the grid. The top 10 was Prost, Schumacher, Hill, Patrese, Andretti, Berger, Senna, Alliot, Blundell and Alesi.

1. Alain Prost 1.27.354
2. Michael Schumacher 1.27.747
3. Damon Hill 1.27.980

13. Erik Comas 1.29.851
14. Jack Christopherson 1.30.013
15. Derek Warwick 1.30.362

21. Andrea De Cesaris 1.31.246

25. Luca Badoer 1.32.013
DNQ Michele Alboreto 1.32.104

RACE
I got a decent start, and moved up to 13th when Hill's engine suddenly failed after the first corner. Michael Schumacher kept Prost honest for the first few laps. Hill's smoking Williams caught Badoer off guard and caused a collision. Nobody took advantage of the early safety car, other than newcomer Eddie Irvine to temporarily end up in 23rd place. Irvine passed a couple of cars until the first round of stops where he jumped up to 4th. Schumacher's hopes of winning were dashed when he retired, this promoted Patrese to an excellent 2nd. Senna's bad weekend ended with a transmission problem. I was in 11th place until just over half way through the race when my engine failed on me. Eddie Irvine and Philippe Alliot were the stars of the weekend, but it was Prost once again taking the chequered flag and doubling his championship lead, his lead was extended to 20 points and looked even more likely to take a 4th World Title.

1. Alain Prost 1hr 29m 42.247s
2. Riccardo Patrese +20.236s
3. Gerhard Berger +34.843s
4. Philippe Alliot +35.289s
5. Michael Andretti +42.284s
6. Eddie Irvine +51.990s
7. Alessandro Zanardi +1m 04.267s
8. JJ Lehto +1 Lap
9. Martin Brundle +1 Lap
10. Karl Wendlinger +1 Lap
11. Christian Fittipaldi +1 Lap
12. Rubens Barrichello +1 Lap
13. Derek Warwick +2 Laps
14. Erik Comas +2 Laps
15. Fabrizio Barbazza +2 Laps
16. Aguri Suzuki +3 Laps
17. Andrea De Cesaris +3 Laps

NC. Jack Christopherson +24 Laps

REJECT OF THE RACE: Ayrton Senna - Made things difficult for himself in the championship.

ROUND 10 - 1993 GERMAN GRAND PRIX - Hockenheim

PRE-RACE
A huge announcement has been made, Alain Prost has announced his retirement at the end of 1993, regardless of whether he wins the championship. Ayrton Senna has also been confirmed as Damon Hill's teammate for 1994. Meanwhile, current McLaren test driver Mika Hakkinen will move to McLaren for 1994, with the strong possibility that he will replace Michael Andretti from the Hungarian Grand Prix onwards.

QUALIFYING
Qualifying went excellently for me, top 10 on the grid, although top 8 for most of the hour as Berger didn't leave the pits until we were down to 4 minutes left of the session. Damon Hill scored pole for Williams in a fantastic effort. Schumacher scored another front row start. Andrea De Cesaris qualified 17th on the grid. The Lolas were miles off the pace, with Badoer being beaten by Alboreto by over half a second.

1. Damon Hill 1.44.375
2. Michael Schumacher 1.44.726
3. Ayrton Senna 1.44.983

8. JJ Lehto 1.46.234
9. Jack Christopherson 1.46.378
10. Johnny Herbert 1.46.759

17. Andrea De Cesaris 1.47.921

25. Michele Alboreto 1.51.359
DNQ Luca Badoer 1.51.867

RACE
I made a good start and got ahead of JJ Lehto for 8th. Hill got a poor getaway and lost out to Schumacher. Andrea De Cesaris was the first retirement with an engine failure. Alboreto was miles off everyone else and was lapped after 12 laps. Hill was out of the race after braking too late and hitting the tyre barrier, which damaged his suspension. Ayrton Senna had clutch problems and had to retire. 20 laps in, the order was Prost, Berger, Alesi, Lehto, Christopherson, Schumacher, Brundle and Herbert. Schumacher then collided with backmarker Alliot. Another big moment of the race was roughly at the halfway point, Christopherson lost control of his Tyrrell whilst in 5th place. The only other significant event in the race was Brundle passing Lehto on one of the long straights. Prost took the 10 points, and was even closer to ending his career with a championship.

1. Alain Prost 1hr 26m 24.247s
2. Gerhard Berger +36.348s
3. Jean Alesi +44.179s
4. Martin Brundle +1 Lap
5. JJ Lehto +1 Lap
6. Erik Comas +2 Laps
7. Alessandro Zanardi +2 Laps
8. Eddie Irvine +2 Laps
9. Derek Warwick +2 Laps
10. Aguri Suzuki +2 Laps
11. Michele Alboreto +4 Laps

NC. Jack Christopherson +23 Laps
NC. Andrea De Cesaris +37 Laps

REJECT OF THE RACE: Lola - Pace was simply embarrasing

Prost has the championship on its hand... How did you lose control of the car at that point??

EDIT: I was steering slightly to try and get a better line into the next corner, and had stability control off. I rewatched the video as I recorded it too with Fraps. Severe brain fade award.

ROUND 11 - 1993 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX

PRE-RACE
McLaren have sacked Michael Andretti after faring very poorly against Ayrton Senna. Talented young finn Mika Hakkinen will replace him for the rest of the season, and has a contract for 1994. Hungary is the main location for driver lineups for the previous season. Two new teams from Great Britain, Simtek and Pacific have entries for the 1994 season, with Simtek confirming the services of son of the legendary Jack Brabham, David Brabham. Pacific are yet to confirm any drivers. Also, at Larrousse, Erik Comas will remain with the team for 1994.

QUALIFYING
Qualifying was quite bad for Tyrrell in general, could this be a slip down the field? 23rd and 24th is a position where only the Lolas could be happy with, me being 24th with De Cesaris just beating me. Hill scoring pole position, Mika Hakkinen's McLaren debut began well, with him qualifying 7th, just behind Patrese. Prost qualified on the front row with Schumacher beating Senna to 3rd. Schumacher was delighted with the result and was talking up his chances of winning the Grand Prix.

1. Damon Hill 1.21.215
2. Alain Prost 1.21.423
3. Michael Schumacher 1.21.456

23. Andrea De Cesaris 1.23.939
24. Jack Christopherson 1.24.074
25. Michele Alboreto 1.25.231
DNQ Luca Badoer 1.25.357

RACE
I made a decent start but didn't overtake anyone, Michele Alboreto suffered a very early engine failure. The race itself was fairly uneventful apart from Hill getting an awful start and dropping to 4th. Senna jumped Schumacher at the start to leap to 2nd. The front of the grid was the usual for 1993, Prost pulling away at the front of the grid. Blundell tangled with Barrichello and Zanardi could not avoid them, damaging his front wing. This moved him to the back of the grid, 22nd. The order at the halfway point was Prost, Senna, Alesi, Schumacher, Patrese, Hill, Berger, Hakkinen, Brundle and Irvine. Alesi was yet to stop at the time, Patrese jumped Hill at the stops. Alesi's pit stop relegated him to 7th, Hakkinen was able to pressure him for the rest of the race but not pass him. On Lap 63, Derek Warwick made a fantastic move on Martin Brundle after Irvine spun and ended up 13th. Once again, Prost took the win, and a giant step towards capturing a 4th world title.

1. Alain Prost 1hr 44m 24.793s
2. Ayrton Senna +22.246s
3. Michael Schumacher +34.427s
4. Riccardo Patrese +37.824s
5. Damon Hill +49.913s
6. Gerhard Berger +1m 00.246s
7. Jean Alesi +1m 12.657s
8. Mika Hakkinen +1m 13.492s
9. Derek Warwick +1 Lap
10. Martin Brundle +1 Lap
11. Philippe Alliot +2 Laps
12. Christian Fittipaldi +2 Laps
13. Eddie Irvine +2 Laps
14. Erik Comas +2 Laps
15. Alessandro Zanardi +3 Laps
16. Andrea De Cesaris +3 Laps
17. Jack Christopherson +3 Laps

REJECT OF THE RACE: Tyrrell - Very slow compared to their rivals all weekend.

ROUND 12 - 1993 BELGIAN GRAND PRIX - Spa Francorchamps

PRE-RACE
Footwork driver Derek Warwick announces that he will follow Alain Prost into retirement at the end of 1993. Rumours strengthen that Riccardo Patrese and Andrea De Cesaris will also follow suit. Christian Fittipaldi will replace Warwick for 1994.

QUALIFYING
Qualifying wasn't great, but at least it was an improvement from last time out for the entire team. 19th for me, 16th for ADC. Prost once again gained pole position, Schumacher was 2nd, the McLarens of Senna and Hakkinen locked out row 3, whilst Luca Badoer was the one to DNQ again. It was mostly the understeer that cost me, at Eau Rouge especially.

1. Alain Prost 1.53.629
2. Micheal Schumacher 1.54.134
3. Ayrton Senna 1.54.247

16. Andrea De Cesaris 1.57.358

18. Christian Fittipaldi 1.57.856
19. Jack Christopherson 1.58.014
20. Erik Comas 1.58.534

25. Michele Alboreto 1.59.537
DNQ Luca Badoer 2.00.034

RACE
I made a good start, although that was undone when Alliot ran into the back of me. No real damage done though. That however didn't last long, as I made a move on Comas, who nudged me, and I went into the wall, bouncing back and taking JJ Lehto out in the process. Senna got the exact start he wanted, jumping up to 1st, beating Schumacher to La Source at the start, and then passing Prost at the Bus Stop chicane. Drivers kept dropping out, Damon Hill and Gerhard Berger being the casualties from the Big 4 teams. Rubens Barrichello also had a real chance of points and was running 5th ahead of Patrese until his engine gave up on him. On Lap 29, Martin Brundle and Johnny Herbert collided when battling for position, it was a 50/50 incident and neither driver was angry with each other. The safety car was out, beforehand, Prost and Alesi had pitted and it was a huge advantage, especially for Prost in his championship bid. Senna drove his car to the limit, but was only able to clinch 3rd place, unable to catch and pass Alesi, who had decent pace. Hakkinen scores his first points for McLaren, whilst Lola score a rare finish. Prost now has a 40 point gap with 4 races left to go, 1 point assures the Frenchman of a 4th world title.

1. Alain Prost 1hr 22m 37.427s
2. Jean Alesi +17.358s
3. Ayrton Senna +22.271s
4. Michael Schumacher +34.473s
5. Mika Hakkinen +35.247s
6. Riccardo Patrese +49.676s
7. Karl Wendlinger +58.930s
8. Andrea De Cesaris +1m 21.316s
9. Mark Blundell +1m 34.272s
10. Michele Alboreto +1 Lap

REJECT OF THE RACE: Erik Comas - Severe brain fade moment of the Vettel kind

ROUND 13 - 1993 ITALIAN GRAND PRIX - Monza

QUALIFYING
Qualifying was better for me, Tyrrell's disaster at Hungaroring was clearly a one off, as Christopherson has never been strong on the twisty tracks, especially with his understeering car this season. This time, at the fast Monza circuit, I was 16th on the grid, although ADC outqualified me again, in 11th. Jean Alesi and Luca Badoer were the heroes of the day. Alesi scoring a magnificent pole position in front of the loving Tifosi. Badoer plonked his Lola onto a sensational 21st on the grid, when Michele Alboreto failed to qualify.

1. Jean Alesi 1.23.464
2. Alain Prost 1.23.981
3. Michael Schumacher 1.24.035

11. Andrea De Cesaris 1.25.928

15. Mark Blundell 1.26.687
16. Jack Christopherson 1.26.985
17. Karl Wendlinger 1.27.042

25. Eddie Irvine 1.28.032
DNQ Michele Alboreto 1.29.045

RACE
My start was poor, and Alesi's dream of a victory immediately went pear shaped, as he dropped to 3rd. Prost led out of turn 1 with Schumacher in 2nd. At the second chicane, there was complete chaos, several drivers tangled and lost front wings. I initially dropped back to 22nd, losing 2 places at the start, and then running on the gravel and losing a further 4. The only retirement was Eddie Irvine, but several driver's mishaps once again promoted me to 15th. Senna took advantage when the safety car went in and put a move on Hill. Gerhard Berger retired early on with clutch trouble whilst approximately halfway through the race, my engine failed. Heartbreak struck the Tifosi when the same thing happened to Alesi when in 2nd place. Prost lost out badly at the pits, and was jumped by Senna and Hill, Schumacher also lost out, as he could have jumped Prost for 3rd. Senna won the race in the end, but it wasn't enough to prevent Prost taking the championship.

1. Ayrton Senna 1hr 23m 41.672s
2. Damon Hill +12.247s
3. Alain Prost +19.894s
4. Michael Schumacher +20.566s
5. Rubens Barrichello +49.897s
6. Mika Hakkinen +1m 02.312s
7. JJ Lehto +1 Lap
8. Alessandro Zanardi +1 Lap
9. Martin Brundle +1 Lap
10. Johnny Herbert +1 Lap
11. Karl Wendlinger +1 Lap
12. Aguri Suzuki +1 Lap
13. Philippe Alliot +1 Lap
14. Derek Warwick +1 Lap
15. Fabrizio Barbazza +1 Lap

NC. Andrea De Cesaris +19 Laps
NC. Jack Christopherson +32 Laps

REJECT OF THE RACE: Eddie Irvine - Nobody could be blamed for the starting incident, but he was such a deadbeat teammate.

I'd give it to Irvine, because a reliability issue shouldn't give you ROTR.

What a disaster for Tyrrell... Let´s hope you don´t suffer as much in the last three races

It's mostly down to me being so awful at the 1993 mod for rFactor, I would have done alright in 1992. It's back to GP4 for 1994 and 1995, and probably 1996 as well so expect improved results.

I only got points at Canada because I have always been so good at that track.

ROUND 14 - 1993 PORTUGUESE GRAND PRIX - Estoril

QUALIFYING
Qualifying went fairly well, the team were slap bang in the midfield, 13th and 14th. Hill took a deserved pole position ahead of Berger, who had done a very good job.

1. Damon Hill 1.15.653
2. Gerhard Berger 1.15.759
3. Ayrton Senna 1.16.024

13. Andrea De Cesaris 1.18.918
14. Jack Christopherson 1.19.297
15. Johnny Herbert 1.19.310

25. Luca Badoer 1.21.396
DNQ Michele Alboreto 1.21.452

RACE
I made a reasonable getaway from the start, as did De Cesaris. Schumacher blasted through the field from 5th and straight to 2nd. Alain Prost however suffered early on with an engine failure, he had dropped down the grid earlier, and Hakkinen could not avoid him so they collided, that triggered a collision between Mark Blundell and Aguri Suzuki. All 4 drivers were out on the spot. Jean Alesi suffered mechanical problems not long after, he was in 5th place. The retirement rate was quite high at Estoril. At the halfway point, 14 drivers were left. They were in the order, Hill, Schumacher, Berger, Senna, Barrichello, Patrese, Lehto, Warwick, Wendlinger, Irvine, Christopherson, Zanardi, Fittipaldi and Badoer. Gerhard Berger also suffered mechanical problems to put end to what was a promising weekend. I made a pass on Eddie Irvine for 9th. The final round of pitstops were contested between Schumacher and Hill, with the young German driver getting the jump on the Englishman for the lead. Rubens Barrichello was running ahead of Senna, who had a poor pitstop, he then suffered an engine failure which cost him a potential podium. Schumacher then won the Portuguese Grand Prix to further enhance his reputation as a future world champion. Sauber scored a double points finish, with Footwork's Derek Warwick finishing just outside the points in 7th.

1. Michael Schumacher 1hr 33m 13.629s
2. Damon Hill +11.358s
3. Ayrton Senna +27.136s
4. Riccardo Patrese +40.380s
5. JJ Lehto +48.346s
6. Karl Wendlinger +55.989s
7. Derek Warwick +1m 04.236s
8. Jack Christopherson +1 Lap
9. Eddie Irvine +1 Lap
10. Luca Badoer +2 Laps

REJECT OF THE RACE: Ferrari - So much promise, all for nothing.

ROUND 15 - 1993 JAPANESE GRAND PRIX - Suzuka

PRE-RACE
There were two driver changes heading into Suzuka. These were at Larrousse and Minardi. Larrousse were in financial troubles and Japanese driver Toshio Suzuki was in for Comas for just one race. Minardi replaced Fabrizio Barbazza with Pierluigi Martini for the final two races. Martini has also signed a contract for 1994 with the Faenza team.

QUALIFYING
Qualifying went very badly, the best I could do was 23rd, on what was quite a mixed up grid. Michael Schumacher continued from his win at Estoril, and scored pole. It was a great day for Benetton, as Patrese will start 3rd on the grid. Toshio Suzuki qualified a commendable 17th on his debut in the Larrousse, even outqualifying Alliot.

1. Michael Schumacher 1.38.093
2. Alain Prost 1.38.693
3. Riccardo Patrese 1.38.238

16. Andrea De Cesaris 1.41.135

22. Eddie Irvine 1.42.212
23. Jack Christopherson 1.42.436
24. Christian Fittipaldi 1.42.697
25. Michele Alboreto 1.44.254
DNQ Luca Badoer 1.44.379

RACE
Ayrton Senna made a dream start from 4th, and surged straight up to 1st. I made a decent start and was immediately up to 19th, although mechanical troubles immediately put pay to that. Alboreto was out at the first corner after his engine prematurely blew up on him. Gerhard Berger and Damon Hill collided and both had to pit for repairs, the suspension on Berger’s car had slight damage and it slowed him down for the rest of the race. Hill retired on Lap 14 with a water leak. The attrition rate was quite high. Toshio Suzuki retired halfway in the race, he was running in 14th ahead of Alliot in 15th. Jean Alesi collided with Aguri Suzuki in a 50/50, although the Frenchman was lapping Suzuki. Sauber had another strong showing, with their drivers running 4th and 6th at the end of the race. Senna’s excellent start helped him win the Japanese Grand Prix, in his penultimate race for McLaren.

1. Ayrton Senna 1hr 41m 36.236s
2. Alain Prost +21.215s
3. Michael Schumacher +34.098s
4. Karl Wendlinger +37.247s
5. Alessandro Zanardi +38.017
6. JJ Lehto +46.966s
7. Martin Brundle +1m 01.316s
8. Mark Blundell +1m 04.924s
9. Johnny Herbert +1m 23.748s
10. Derek Warwick +1 Lap
11. Gerhard Berger +1 Lap
12. Pierluigi Martini +2 Laps
13. Philippe Alliot +2 Laps

REJECT OF THE RACE: Philippe Alliot – Toshio Suzuki made him look like the rookie

ROUND 16 - 1993 AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX - Adelaide

PRE-RACE
Larrousse put Erik Comas back in the car for Adelaide after one-off Toshio Suzuki's reasonably impressive debut. Comas was already confirmed for 1994 at Larrousse. Suzuki was competing against Monegasque driver Olivier Berretta. Lola BMS announced that they would not take part in 1994, reducing the number of teams to 14.

QUALIFYING
Qualifying was better this time around than Suzuka, resulting in me outqualifying De Cesaris. Once again, Badoer failed to qualify. Jean Alesi got pole position alongside Damon Hill. Michael Schumacher was 3rd alongside Senna who was taking part in his final race for McLaren. Prost was down in 5th.

1. Jean Alesi 1.19.525
2. Damon Hill 1.19.761
3. Michael Schumacher 1.19.803

14. Alessandro Zanardi 1.21.362
15. Jack Christopherson 1.21.409
16. Andrea de Cesaris 1.21.785

25. Michele Alboreto 1.24.336
DNQ Luca Badoer 1.24.952

RACE
My start was pretty good, Hakkinen's was poor and we collided. The collision also involved De Cesaris, Alboreto and Alliot. All 5 of us were out on the spot. There was no safety car as the cars weren't blocking the track. Gerhard Berger and Riccardo Patrese collided and both were out of the race. Jean Alesi dropped down the field quite early on in the race and it ended with an engine failure, thus ending a dismal season for the Maranello squad. Aguri Suzuki and Eddie Irvine also had a crash, whilst jostling for position at the fast right hander before the Brabham straight. Derek Warwick had engine troubles and had to retire, the end of a career that should have been much more. The Adelaide Street Circuit proved to be tough on engines, contributing to there only being 7 cars left after 50 Laps. Senna, Prost, Schumacher, Barrichello, Fittipaldi, Zanardi and Blundell. Schumacher was next to drop out, his Ford powerplant giving up on Lap 55. Zanardi's chance of consecutive points finishes ended 2 laps later with a water leak. Rubens Barrichello's impressive debut season ended with a Hart engine failure on Lap 60. Minardi could have scored their first ever podium, as Fittipaldi was running 3rd before his engine also failed on Lap 66. To be classified, 90% of the race needed to be completed, which was 73 laps. Only 3 cars were left, as Ayrton Senna signed off in style from McLaren ahead of the retiring Alain Prost. Mark Blundell finished 3rd, solidifying Ligier's 5th place in the Constructors Championship, despite pressure late on from the impressive rookie Sauber team.

1. Ayrton Senna 1hr 51m 13.136s
2. Alain Prost +7.043s
3. Mark Blundell +49.362s

REJECT OF THE RACE: Engines - The main contribution to the insanely high attrition rate.

ROUND 1 - 1994 BRAZILIAN GRAND PRIX - Interlagos

QUALIFYING
1994 was highly anticipated, Ayrton Senna was championship favourite, with Schumacher and Hill looking to say otherwise. For me, I had high expectations, they didn't start too well, as I couldn't get the second sector right. I was actually third quickest in sector 1. Michael Schumacher took pole position ahead of Senna. Mark Blundell outqualified me, he was 13th and I was 15th. Johnny Herbert was slowest in the Lotus whilst the two Ligiers also struggled badly. Both Footworks were in the top 10 with Martini also making it.

1. Schumacher 1.19.023
2. Senna 1.19.342
3. Alesi 1.19.897

13. Blundell 1.22.004
14. Brundle 1.22.036
15. Christopherson 1.22.350
16. Barrichello 1.22.824

RACE
My start was pretty good, I jumped up to 13th by Turn 1, and up to 12th by the end of Lap 1. Martini spun off halfway around the first lap and dropped to near the back of the grid. Schumacher pulled away at the start of the race and Senna couldn't keep up. Damon Hill suffered a puncture from 5th place and had to go almost a whole lap to get to the pits. Michael Schumacher's engine failed on Lap 34, thus handing the lead to Senna. Comas was battling with the midfield runners. I spun off the track from 10th after 39 laps. With 20 laps to go, the top 6 was Senna, Alesi, Hakkinen, Frentzen, Wendlinger and Berger. 4 laps later, Senna retired with a brakes problem handing the lead to Jean Alesi. The Frenchman won the race, but the biggest moment of heartbreak was Christian Fittipaldi losing 6th place on the final straight by 0.036 seconds.

1. Alesi 1hr 35m 23.441s
2. Hakkinen +20.121s
3. Frentzen +25.638s
4. Wendlinger +35.589s
5. Berger +43.236s
6. Brundle +56.139s
7. Fittipaldi +56.175s
8. Blundell +1m 02.136s
9. Morbidelli +1 Lap
10. Hill +2 Laps
11. Martini +2 Laps
12. Alboreto +3 Laps

REJECT OF THE RACE: Ligier - Poor showing all weekend

After my 1993 performances, I didn't deserve another race seat, other than Simtek, Pacific, Larrousse or Minardi, so I decided to stay put. Plus, the 1994 car was good.

And Tyrrell also meet the criteria of my favourite teams other than Minardi and Super Aguri, British and independent. Jordan, Williams and Arrows for example.

Yeah, if Fittipaldi had kept 6th place, Sauber would be 2nd in the Constructors Championship.

ROUND 2 - 1994 PACIFIC GRAND PRIX - TI Aida

QUALIFYING
A very rare occassion, neither Lotus made the grid, the two Larrousse cars did so instead. Qualifying was wet all the way through, inters were the way to go. I didn't look too good out there, but I strung a lap together and scored an excellent 5th place. Mark Blundell also ran well in 11th. Fittipaldi was also on form as he made the top 6. Despite being 5th, I was 2 and a half seconds off Senna's pole time, but overall, a good qualifying session.

1. Senna 1.26.844
2. Schumacher 1.27.119
3. Hill 1.28.392
4. Berger 1.28.920
5. Christopherson 1.29.229
6. Fittipaldi 1.29.799

11. Blundell 1.30.469

RACE
Objective, get my first points of the season, I was in a good position to do so. Unfortunately, I didn't capitalise. I made a good start though, jumping Berger at the start to take 4th position. But I ran wide at Turn 8, ended in the kitty litter and lost many positions. Martin Brundle moved up to the points at my expense. Alesi retired early on with a transmission failure. My race ended early, as Bernard ran wide and when he rejoined the race, I could not avoid him and that was it. Lap 29, Schumacher passed Senna at Turn 1. He kept that position until the end of the race. Larrousse's Erik Comas was in the midfield until his eventual retirement. The race was uneventful from then on as Schumacher won the race from the two Williams cars of Senna and Hill.

1. Schumacher 1hr 51m 02.230s
2. Senna +14.150s
3. Hill +16.927s
4. Berger +42.367s
5. Brundle +53.236s
6. Fittipaldi +1m 09.349s
7. Barrichello +1m 11.024s
8. Lehto +1 Lap
9. Alboreto +1 Lap
10. Blundell +1 Laps
11. Morbidelli +2 Laps
12. Beretta +3 Laps

REJECT OF THE RACE: Sauber - Brazil's heroes, Pacific's zeroes

Jack Christopherson wrote:The race was a disaster for me, I don't like the track. It reminds me of a Go-Karting track, there is only one overtaking spot on the entire track. I hope this does not represent what future tracks will be like. Anyway, Imola should be an improved showing, despite me not having the best results there.

I've had to reinstall GP4, and when I tried reinstalling CSM, but I got this problem. Anyone know what I can do?

"Not enough access to read from the registry"

And yes, I did run as administrator.

ROUND 3 - 1994 SAN MARINO GRAND PRIX - Imola

QUALIFYING
I felt I had to score points here, because Monaco and Barcelona are bad tracks for me. I did not start it well, qualifying in second last position, only ahead of Johnny Herbert's Lotus. The track was wet and I could only get one clean lap, and it wasn't a good one, almost 4 seconds slower than Schumacher on pole. I'm not a good wet weather driver. I was hoping for a dry race where I could overtake, because a wet race would probably end with me retiring.

1. Schumacher 1.39.220
2. Berger 1.39.721
3. Senna 1.40.011

10. Blundell 1.41.304

20. Barrichello 1.42.960
21. Christopherson 1.43.173
22. Herbert 1.43.247

RACE
I made a terrific start, and was up to 13th by the end of the first lap, passing Blundell, Irvine and Brundle amongst others. Hakkinen started well until Wendlinger braked too late, nudged Martini who then nudged Hakkinen off the track as a result. He never recovered, it was one of the lowest attrition races for a long time. I spun off after 23 laps and ended up down in 19th. The first retirement of the race was JJ Lehto in the Benetton, who wasn't looking like he could score points anyway, he retired on Lap 32 with a loose wheel. Pierluigi Martini spun from 5th, whilst running ahead of Jean Alesi, his race was over. With 9 laps to go, I ran over a kerb at the Variante Alta and ended up in the wall. It was a fairly processional race, with Schumacher leading Senna home, and Hill just missing out on 3rd, Berger coming home ahead of him by 0.1 seconds.

1. Schumacher 1hr 34m 31.642s
2. Senna +4.369s
3. Berger +17.436s
4. Hill +17.550s
5. Alesi +45.427s
6. Wendlinger +51.123s
7. Fittipaldi +56.734s
8. Morbidelli +1m 10.105s
9. Blundell +1m 22.328s
10. Brundle +1 Lap
11. Bernard +1 Lap
12. Irvine +1 Lap
13. Frentzen +1 Lap
14. Barrichello +2 Laps
15. Alboreto +2 Laps
16. Hakkinen +2 Laps
17. Panis +2 Laps
18. Herbert +3 Laps
19. Comas +3 Laps

REJECT OF THE RACE: Jack Christopherson - Awful weekend, reminiscent of his season so far.
