Another championship with a twist here. Top drivers may get eliminated but from certain rounds only.

1950 season works as usual. Giuseppe Farina won three races - British, Swiss and Italian GPs. Therefore he is eliminated for all subsequent years from these three races. Juan Manuel Fangio won Monaco, French and Belgian GPs. Johnnie Parsons won Indy 500.

The circuit which holds the race doesn't affect - Lewis Hamilton gets eliminated from Japanese GP in Suzuka since he won at Fuji etc. And on the other note - Jacques Villeneuve wins both 1996 European Grand Prix and 1997 Luxembourg Grand Prix held at Nürburgring.

Clarification for US races
United States Grand Prix held in Watkins Glen until 1980, then not officially held in 1981-88
Long Beach held US GP West so these races are on their own
Las Vegas, Dallas and Detroit races were known by city names so they are on their own.
Phoenix held three races which were US Grand Prix so it's almost new start from the beginning in 1989.

No fastest lap points awarded between 1950-1959.

Not sure I understand this - but as a few examples say - does Alesi only get eliminated from Canadian GPs from 1996 onwards?

Does Michael Schumacher get eliminated from Belgian GPs from 1993 onwards, and Portuguese GPs from 1994 onwards, then Brazil, Pacific, San Marino, Monaco, Canada, France, Hungary and European GPs from 1995 onwards (and almost every other race subsequent to that?

Vettel gets eliminated from Italy only in 2009, then probably after this season he's out of nearly every race, possibly except only Canada?

And if a race is held in a new country then everyone is eligible for that (say Korea in 2010, then only Alonso is out of that one for this year)?

There are new winners for some of the races - so Alesi will get removed in Monaco starting from 1991 - in real-life he was 2nd to Senna in 1990 but Senna is eliminated already due to his earlier victories.

And yes, this year Korean GP has only Alonso removed, while Indian GP has everyone competing. Abu Dhabi has Vettel and Hamilton (since he gets promoted in 2010) eliminated.

I was going to try and make predictions based on what I thought the rules were (it was only real-life I was thinking of rather than the knock-on effect) but now I think it'll be too difficult. Should be intteresting though!

Hawthorn becomes first driver to win two titles. He was helped a lot by winning just one a year before, but with four wins this time it's difficult for him in the future. There was also a shared win at German Grand Prix with Hawthorn and Gonzalez.

Moss was eligible for five races excluding Indy - and he won them all. Helped a lot by calendar having two new and one returning Grands Prix.

1959 have a bit less eliminated drivers. Hawthorn, Collins and Musso have died while Fangio has retired.

Brabham seemed to suffer as he lost some wins. Before the final race however, McLaren led 36-32. In this race, United States Grand Prix, McLaren was eliminated, so Brabham needed 3rd place. He got just that, ironically by finishing 4th in real-life, just behind McLaren.

Some big changes for 1961 are that now 9 points is awarded for victory. Also, Indianapolis 500 is no longer world championship event. Another race going for a break is Argentine GP, local interest has dropped following Fangio and Gonzalez being now retired.

Phil Hill lost his Monza win, having won Italian GP previously. von Trips won the title posthumously since he died at Italian GP. Ferrari withdrew from the season-finale US GP as a result.

Along with von Trips, it was final season for two-time champion Stirling Moss who was injured before the next season and 6-time winner Tony Brooks.

Arundell takes dream start for the season, winning his first race at Monaco and leading the championship after four rounds. After that he is badly injured and misses the rest of the season. Bandini was scoreless after four rounds but then took three straight victories which put him into the lead. He was able to defend it to the end. Surtees overtook him for the second in season finale South African GP but it was not enough.

It was the farewell season for Phil Hill and Maurice Trintignant.

Rindt led by almost 30 points at the time of his death. Regazzoni had chance with two races to go but his retirement in USA clinched the posthomous title to Rindt.

This for last season for many winners. Rindt, McLaren and Courage died in accidents during the season. Gurney and Brabham ended their F1 careers as well.

Third occasion as champion dies during the season. This time Cevert had the title sewn up at that point. Highlight of the season was German GP where Brazilian drivers got 1-2-3 while Wilson Fittipaldi beat his brother for 2nd. Notable thing was that Regazzoni finished 6th a total of five times!

Jackie Stewart retired after 1973 season.

I was going to try and do my usual predictions now I understand what's happening, but I can't see it varying from the Elimination championship too much (the original one that Bleu also did, not the medals one) - but I think some variations could be:

Piquet will beat Jones in 1980 due to Jones winning lots of races in late 1979
Mansell will win 1986 due to still being in more races than Prost or Piquet
Senna might still be in enough races to win 1988
Hakkinen might be still in enough races to win 1998
Massa should win in 2006 due to being in more races than Fisichella, and therefore Kubica wins 2008

Many eliminations for Lauda and Hunt (who lost three of his real-life victories) helped massively Depailler, who had not won a race before this season. And helped the Frenchman into the title! Yes, a title for Tyrrell 6-wheeler, which debuted in Spanish GP, fourth round of the season. Depailler had one second and one third in first three rounds.

What I'll do from now is post my prediction for the following year every time Bleu updates, a bit like most of us did for the Johnny Claes award. I completely didn't see Depailler or Watson's championships coming, so for 1980 I will say Piquet as he's in all races and Jones is out of several.
