Who would you choose if you were Williams management?

I would go Sutil.

If the Williams management don't think of this as a no brainer, then, quite frankly, they don't deserve to have jobs. They should be fired immediately for being incompetent if they actually have to think over a choice between these four.

I have to agree.

I've heard a disturbing rumour that Vitaly Petrov is talking to Williams. Can you imagine it, Maldonado and Petrov as a line-up?

Id vote for Rubens because, apart from all the obvious reasons, twenty seasons in F1 sounds better than 19.

Sutil hasnt quite achieved in F1 to me. Hes been very good but not sensational. Senna in a Williams? Risky. Not from a safety point of view but for how many times Imola 1994 will be brought up. Bottas? Silly name, sounds like Botty.

None of them. I'd try and get Kobayashi out of Sauber, as was rumoured before Christmas. Of all the drivers on the grid, Kamui Kobayashi and Fernando Alonso are the only two Williams drivers - drivers who capture the same spark of attention the way the likes of Senna and Prost and Hill did when they joined the team.

I like that thinking, it reminds of when that was how things were. Williams did choose their drivers with that in mind, even the later ones like Schumacher, Montoya or even Villeneuve. I would actually have included Raikkonen in the list, when he felt like it he was an arsehole (in a good way).

I don't mean in terms of their atttude. I mean in terms of their racing. I just don't see Raikkonen as a Williams driver, but I can easily picture Kobayashi and Alonso in the team. It's kind of hard to quantify, but Williams drivers need to have an edge to them, something that separates them from the masses despite the fact that Formula 1 drivers are already quite separate.

Looking at both this years drivers and last years, there arent many drivers that could technically be Williams drivers.

I sometimes wonder if the junior formulas are to blame, they seem to arrive in F1 like end-of-career veterans, playing it safe, saying The Right Thing. You'd have thought they'd be gung-ho ready to open up a can of Whupass, not be concentrating on getting their Twitter account set up.

Yeah I read what you typed. Still applies. Look at Sutil as he comfortably settles into the Nick Heidfeld School Of Just Turning Up.

Maldonado and Petrov would be epic. The team should be renamed Trolling Williams Renault, and I can already see the headlines:

Go home, Bernie Ecclestone!

"Adrian, stay off the kerbs during the run, stay off the kerbs."
"So, no KERS?"
"No kerbs, KERBS, as in the side of the circuit."

I meant Sutil, he scored some good points but was fairly timid at times. As for Trulli, hes in that phase of his F1 career when he needs a little nap in the afternoon which he chooses to have during the races.

Compared to others like Rosberg, the already mentioned Trulli, Liuzzi, Perez, Buemi and Di Resta, Sutil is still a fairly exciting driver and not very timid at all IMHO.

I find Sutil pretty dull and anonymous to be honest.

Petrov has the edge about him (and cash) to where he'd fit in with Williams's "racer's image" (). Not to mention he's the most exciting driver in the midfield other than DJ Squire, really.

Sutil is who Williams need. He has money, he's experienced, even as a midfield team's leader, and he can go beyond his car's limits a few times, e.g. in the wet.

Bottas is a fine choice for Friday drives.

Barrichello couldn't help last year, he had his opportunities, actually far better than this year's Williams can be, it's time to say goodbye.

All this comparison between Petrov and Sutil does make me laugh!! Petrov would be too busy throwing the car into a hedge whilst Sutil would just stay quiet, and get the job done. Look at Brazil, quality drive to 6th and barely anyone noticed him. That's what Williams need, not some super-reject racing team.

I find it hilarious just how many people have wet dreams about how good Sutil is!

I don't dislike him or anything, I just don't think he deserves all the praise he gets. Having said that, out of the drivers listed, he's probably Williams' best bet, and will do a better job than Barrichello would. Petrov? I think he'd need another year of experience before trying to lead a team.

I always though of Sutil as a good but not outstanding driver. Much like a Barrichello (except he is marginally faster while having less technical nous). The guy can lead back of the grid to midfield teams and play a nice second fiddle in the front of the grid teams but there is not much after that. Now Williams must chose what to prefer at this point. One thing I am sure they will do... Pick the wrong guy!

It's not people getting mildly moist over Sutil, it's just he's clearly wayyy better in this list of possible Williams drivers. Senna isn't all that, Barrichello shouldve retired after 2009 and Bottas? Erm... Just no...

It's obvious Sutil is the clear option for Williams. If they don't sign him, they'll be committing suicide IMO.

Something about your name tells me you're not 100% objective on this

Anyway, time will tell. I know you will disagree with my belief that Sutil will never win the WDC, with some drivers you just know (Coulthard, Fisi, the list goes on).

Williams don't need a potential WDC winner though, they just need a steady hand for the medium-long term who can consistently drive to the car's potential.

True enough, and by that measure Sutil and Rubens fit the bill. Would Williams do a car-share a-la Brundle and Suzuki at Ligier in 1995? You never know.
