KUDOS to Kyle Busch for saving his car twice in the same spinning situation. He might be the Bad Boy of all racing this generation but he surely has the talent to race and win. Do you remember the rumor that he'd get a ride for USF1?

Correct me if I'm missing something but why is Ruetimann only 46th after qualifying?

Kyle Busch said he'd never go to F1 unless it was for one of the top two teams because F1 isn't as competitive as NASCAR is. Aside from the fact I believe he's correct, he has never seriously impressed me before that showing in the Bud Shootout. Holy crap, Batman, I thought Robby Gordon was driving that car that's how many awesome saves there were...

Generally speaking, I don't regard superspeedway success as a true test of driver talent in NASCAR, with a few exceptions. That was one of them. You want to know what Michael Waltrip spent his career doing despite his "success" at superspeedways? Here's some of his highlights, but I recall watching pretty much him doing the same in the 1990s on a regular basis. He's always had really good cars and just trundles around in the back, constantly finding new places to crash and fail... add on being the biggest prick in all of motorsports and one of the least talented drivers to win in anything more powerful than a go kart. Combine that, an annoying voice, 500 commercial appearances per race, and you've got easily the least likable personality I've ever seen.

Here's a little thing about qualifying at Daytona and Talladega; it doesn't determine talent at all. All you do is go around the outside of the track on lap one, and then on lap two hug the inside. Tony Stewart even said that a monkey could go out and do that back in like 2005 or something.

Coincidentally, both were dumped by people known to be very poor sports; Michael Waltrip was Reutimann's team owner, and Jarno Trulli was dropped by Tony Fernandes! The Burger King Racing team has one of the most BORING cars I've EVER seen, and honestly I don't expect a whole lot from them.

i think it's because he knows that F1 is almost more politics than action. NASCAR is basically "have at it boys and girls" with small fines for eye gouging lol
a NASCAR stockcar is certainly tougher than an f1 chassis, that's for sure.

Thankfully.

Pole in the minor league race, starting dead last in the one that counts, after having to buy a spot in the field no less. I think if she wins today, every TV in the America will explode. Shes getting more coverage than Obama right now (which may or may not be a bad thing).

As for questionable sponsorships, in the NHRA a sheik from Quatar own about a dozen teams, and the Yas Marina circuit (yup the F1 track) sponsors a TF dragster.

Speaking of questionable sponsorships, the 26 Front Row Motorsports Ford will have Rick Santorum's U.S presidential campaign sponsoring them for the Daytona 500.

Johanna Long ran in trucks last year. She was fast but got in a lot of accidents -- some of her own making, most not. Either way, I considered no race complete until Johanna Long was involved in a caution.

She was infamously spun out in a straight line by Narain Karthikeyan (who interestingly needed that yellow really badly...) at Nashville I think.

Long's entry is notable for being owned by Mary Louise Miller -- making it the only female owner/female driver combo that I can think of!

ESPN on their mobile site has an entire article of Danica's wreck, and no mention of the race winner. And people wonder why every race fan hates her?

She happens to be from the same city I'm from, so she get's quite a bit of coverage in the local newspapers over here. Of course, she doesn't get any attention from the international scene, showing how biased the coverage is to Patrick. (They love a poster child.) I don't know much about Long's racing career though. She did win the Snowball Derby back in 2010. (The Monaco of lower class stock car racing.) The only other notable racing driver I know from this area is NASCAR reject Eddie Mercer, a local car dealer who I think had a couple privateer runs in Daytona. But my NASCAR knowledge is a little rough so feel free to correct me on anything I have wrong.

Indeed it is pretty sad that the American media looks at it as Danica and 42 other drivers. I personally think she's a good driver, but the media attention that surrounds her can be unbearable at times and makes me wish that every race that she's in that she would be out on the first lap so the Danica coverage of the show would be over.

Lewis Hamilton in his first two seasons.

EuroSport's CART coverage went berserk any time Mark Blundell did anything worth noting and were practically in tears whenever he or Dario Franchitti wrecked out. It's why I loathe watching the British commentators for CART races.

Danicamania is pretty damn ridiculous, but NASCAR is FAR WORSE about it than IndyCar ever was. Being on a few NASCAR related forums, people get REALLY pissed any time Danica does anything right. Needless to say they unintentionally feed the trolls...

In other words, I actively want Danica to win the Daytona 500 because the rage that will cause will be hilarious.

Yes, I'm a total dick.

Exactly how I feel about her. I'm sure deep down inside, there is a good driver, but the attention on her is just unbearable. I mean, it's not like she was the only woman do well in motorsport. Why not celebrate over someone more noble, like Michele Mouton? Someone who I think was more of a true racer, and less of a showboater. (Or at least someone that isn't overrated.)

You clearly don't realize David Ragan and David Gilliland are in the field... and the fact that half the drivers think their engines going to blow up before the end...
