I do like a bit of metal. Some Iron Maiden and some Lostprophets, but that's about it.
The 1990s were better. Fact. And you bloody well know it.

In junior high (and I still do), I listened to metal (and hard rock), just like the other guys (hey, I'm from Finland after all!). But I still got into arguments with the other guys because I'm into traditional metal - Judas Priest, Scorpions, Saxon, Accept, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep et cetera while the others were more into thrash/death/black metal, which I thought to be (and still think) as utter crap. So on almost every break we argued on who listened to "true" metal and who didn't.

It was to my surprise that someone in my HNC Radio course which I started last month had actually heard of Breakbot. A small amount of faith was restored in the universe that day.

But The Pasadenas...that's a different story. :|

Oi! I actually quite like Charlie Brown. But I do agree that many of their older songs are better.

Once I thought about it, I'm come to the conclusion that the Marussia team must feel like clowns right now for missing the first test entirely, especially with HRT effectively ruled out of the first Barcelona test thanks to failing the crash test a few days ago. I mean, they could've just done what Mercedes did and given Glock and Pic last year's cars to wring the necks out of.

Marussia originally planned to attend the first test with last years car to obtain data about the new tyres and to give Pic some experience, but backlogs in designing and constructing the car mean that the new car won't be ready until the final pre-season test. So, instead of carrying out the tyre testing at the first test session as planned, they decided to push that back to the second session and concentrate on the new car in the intervening period.

I don't see how anyone can be 100% certain what other people already know or not? Certainly I've never seen anyone post this 'golden nugget' of information on this forum ever before. Even if everybody already knew that, its always good to remind ourselves of this fact. In the case, that someone didn't already know that, well perhaps it may inspire them to read up futher on the matter.

Furthermore I read alot of stuff here, which I already knew & thought was obvious to others. Yet I refrain myself from posting remarks like yours since they don't serve much useful purpose.

Marussia will be doomed by HRT. They already made fools of themselves by missing the final tests.
Considering how HRT managed without proper pre-season testing - give them just one day of testing and they will humiliate Marussia-Virgin-Manor once and for all :D

Yeah sorry for the confusion guys. After posting it, I check the previous pages of this thread & realised they are mostly / if not all current issues.

Therefore I figured it might be an inappropriate subject here (& maybe one of the mods would end up moving it). That's why I've moved it to the unpopular opinions threads.

Probably best to continue the discussion on Piquet over there.

Apologies once again for the trouble/ confusion.

So, if I got this right - which I probably didn't - McLaren doesn't have the lowered nose because their car is generally lower. If that's the case, won't they run into problems on tracks requiring high ride height, such as Singapore?

The answer to your question lies here: http://www.formula1.com/news/technical/2012/0/935.htm

In a nutshell: Everybody else, excluding McLaren and Marussia, actually raised the nose ahead of the bulkhead, then dropped their noses after it to comply with the regulations hence creating that step. Wheras McLaren and Marussia opted to just lower the nose section without raising it. It's just the nose section that's lower because they didn't raise it, so there shouldn't be any issues with ride height.

Here's a thought. When was the last time car 18 won a race?

I found myself wondering the same for car 23 when Heikki Kovalainen won in Hungary in 2008, and it turned out the previous car 23 to win was back in the 1960s (Jim Clark, if I remember rightly). From 1996, the number 23 had been given to a back-of-the-grid reject, usually Minardi, sometimes Prost, these days to HRT - sometimes not even appearing at all if there were only ten teams competing. McLaren were only given 22 and 23 because they had been disqualified from last year's Constructors' Championship, it's not as if they'd had a rejectful season (the way, e.g. Prost or BAR did). And before 1996, 23 was usually a Minardi number, or Alfa Romeo before that, and that wasn't the Alfa Romeo that had once been so dominant... and so, as it turned out, we had to backtrack to the 1960s when numbers were allocated on a race-by-race basis.

18 is an equally rejectful number. Awarded to the ninth-placed team from the previous season, it's hardly a sign of greatness - Tyrrell were the first to take it in the 1996-on numbering scheme while they were on their way down (1996-97), then it was Stewart in their second year, then it was passed around Prost, Arrows, Jaguar, Minardi, Jordan, Midland, Toro Rosso, Super Aguri and Fondmetal Team Malaysia. The number even took a break for 2002 and 2009 after the withdrawals of Prost and Honda after the entry lists had been drawn up... as it had done between 1992 and 1995 when Fondmetal decided to run two cars, pushed March to 16/17 while 19/20 were still used for Benetton and then Larrousse. Before 1992, the number 18 was seen on such earth-shatteringly rejectful cars as AGS, Osella, Arrows (OK, so they weren't that bad at the time), RAM-March, Shadow... and by this stage we're back before I was born. I suspect that, if I do the investigation, I suspect that Pastor Maldonado's victory will be the first for car 18 since the 1960s, as Heikki's was for car 23.

It could have been so different, though. Rubens Barrichello was, as we all know, another victor in car 23 for Brawn in 2009. But it could have been so different - if Brawn had been allowed to take Honda's allocated numbers for 2009, then the last victory for car 18 would have been one of the Brawn drivers - probably Jenson Button, seeing as he took the lower-numbered car that year.

We also had a discussion here recently about car 14 winning - again, it's been associated with fair to middling teams for so long that it seemed out of reach, and before 1996 it was used by the Fondmetals, AGSs, Zakspeeds and third Renaults (driven by François Hesnault, of all people) of this world, then by Jordan when they were trying to haul themselves off the back of the grid. When Mark Webber won in 2009, how long had it been since the last triumph for car 14?

The question, is, who will be driving #18 next season? I suspect it will be a Toro Rosso, and could well be Jean-Eric Vergne! Unlikely unrejectification win for him in 2013 too?

Peter Gethin in Italy 1971, which was, you guessed it, ANOTHER unrejectification by win!

The question, is, who will be driving #18 next season? I suspect it will be a Toro Rosso, and could well be Jean-Eric Vergne! Unlikely unrejectification win for him in 2013 too?

With the way the season has gone so far, I fully expect everyone other than Karthikeyan, De La Rosa, Glock and Massa to win one race each.
Sticking his neck on the line, one post at a time. Oh, and Singapore is still better than Monaco.

What's wrong with Webber's starts?
Been a problem for almost two years, but wasn't a problem in spain in 2010.

They've been a problem for longer than that.

Australia 2004
Malaysia 2004
Monaco 2005

Pay attention at 5:31 at the second video ;)

Also, what was Webber thinking? Was he asleep at the wheel?

If Malaysia 2004 was his front-row start for Jaguar, he had a gear-selection problem. He started to fight his was back through before an altercation with Barrichello (I think), which dropped him near the back again, before the gearbox cried enough and broke for good.
For explanation on recent inactivity, please read 2nd post on 2nd page of 'just nipping out' thread. Thank you.

It must be a lucky number...

...maybe not for Fabrizio Barbazza or Piercarlo Ghinzani, mind!
