Great read. That bit at the end about John Watson was quite interesting. It also makes me wonder whether Colani ever gave any thought to what would happen if that periscope ever came detached and struck the driver or a car behind. Wasn't it concerns of a similar nature that led to the banning of similar devices used by Arrows and Jordan at the 2001 Monaco GP?

I was under the impression that it was more about forward visibility problems, but the safety grounds seems plausible.

Indeed :). I wonder if that didn't also set the precedent that led to the 2006 BMW-Sauber 'twin towers' concept being banned as well...
