Question about drivers from the same country or same city

Postby Sunshine_Baby_[IT] » 09 Mar 2012, 03:27

Which was the highest number of drivers from the same country attending the grand prix? I remember seven German drivers in the same GP (Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, Nico Rosberg, Adrian Sutil, Nicolas Hulkenberg, Timo Glock and Nick Heidfeld, in the second part of 2010 when Heidfeld replaced De La Rosa). Have ever been more than seven drivers from the same country in a grand prix?

And what about drivers born in the same city? I remember four, two seasons ago: Felipe Massa, Rubens Barrichello, Bruno Senna and Lucas Di Grassi all born in Sao Paulo. Have ever been more than four?

In the Ponderbox thread, I already found that 17 Britons started the 1952 British Grand Prix and 21 of them entered the 1959 British GP. This is, of course, excluding the Indy 500, that saw 33 Americans in every edition except 1952.

A lot of Italian drivers were around in the late 80s and early 90s, not many of them successful.

Interestingly enough, speaking of cities, Stefano Modena is actually from Modena.

I haven't never known it before.

I've just found nine Italians in the same grand prix: Patrese, De Cesaris, Alboreto, Capelli, Martini, Modena, Morbidelli, Tarquini and Giovanna Amati in South Africa, Mexico and Brasil 1992. :o

EDIT: I've forgotten two. Caffi and Bertaggia were "racing" for the most rejectful team ever in South African and Mexican grand prix 1992. So it means eleven Italian drivers.

Nick Heidfeld and Heinz-Harald Frentzen are both from Mönchengladbach, and were team-mates at Sauber in 2003.

Thanks for reminding it.
Are there other former team mates from the same city?

Funnily enough just been reading the main site profile on Modena (aka Lambo) which says...

The team was entered for the 1991 World Championship as Scuderia Modena SpA, which caused no end of confusion. For essentially this was the Lamborghini Engineering team, and yet they had called themselves 'Modena', same as the town in the Italian motor racing heartland, and same as Stefano Modena, who would be driving for Tyrrell Honda in 1991.

But I don't think it confirms whether or not they were based in Modena.

Nevertheless, in 1991, we could potenially have had... Modena from Modena, in a Modena! :P

Just needed the Italian GP to be held in Modena to complete it really.

Modena has said that Enzo Ferrari, shortly before he died, invited him to Maranello, and said that he would love for a driver named Modena, from Modena, to drive one of his cars. I can't remember where I read this.

So did I, last September (although I passed both on the autostrada). And I believe that Sunshine Baby only lives an hour or two from there?

Now come on eurobrun! (Worryingly off-topic post ahead)

You have to understand, dr-baker's alone...

And wondered, "Is this love? It must have been love!" easily more than a million times...

He thinks heaven is miles away and lies there cryin.

He's up all night, thinking "She never looked that good for me... I won't forget you."

But without the night, he'll be okay, his blind faith will keep him going.

Because the reality is, he's just one step from paradise.

Boom.

How many song titles could we spot there then?
That's right Eddie, that was me with the banner, Spanish GP, 2002. This pile of legal forms won't fill itself in you know...

Patronising doesn't even come close to describing what this thread has become

I would love to - Italy is a beautiful country, as is Switzerland (and France in places...) (the latter two of which I would have to drive through to get there).

EDIT: And I do NOT include the Moulin Rouge as one of the beautiful places of France...

Yes, exactly (I think an hour from Modena and a little more from Imola). But I've never been nor to Imola neither to Modena...
