Most Forgettable Drivers

Exactly. I recently watched a race that David took part in, off the top of my head, I think it was the ALMS series at Long Beach in (I think 2010). He was simply stunning in that race, taking the fight to the 'works' Aston Martin LMP1 cars. Personally I would rather remember David for stuff like that, above his time in F1.

It is for those reasons that he may wish to forget that period, but I wish to remember him for it. Why? Simply because I am not sure I could have done what he did. I don't really have any heros or idols, but if I did, he would be one because of that.

Therefore perhaps it would be fair to remember David 'the person' more for the heroic way he acted during his time in F1. Another all time hero of mine is Jackie Stewart for simliar reasons.

Whislt perhaps remembering David 'the driver' for his stunning sportcar exploits. Which personally I find is easier to get more exicted about, than his F1 drives. Not least because we see more TV coverage of him actually driving, for us fans to appreciate.

Glad we reached a consensus! I am aware of his sportscar expoits via the pages of Autosport magazine, but have not been able to follow his exploits much on TV. He is certainly very talented and competitive from what I have read, more so than what his F1 results would show.

I was writing an article earlier and struggled to remember who Timo Glock's last two team-mates in F1 were. That's how much of an impression Virgin/Marussia have made on the sport.

There's another great uncool name from the early 80s though he didn't do much - Kevin (Cogan).

There are two more seriously uncool names I've just remembered and it's becuase the drivers in question were actually known by their middle names - Jackie Oliver was actually called Keith, but the best one for me is Graham Hill who was really called Norman.

No offence meant to any Kevins, Keiths or Normans who may post on here!!!

Incidentially regarding F1 drivers who have uncool names. If that wasn't bad enough, on 'Time of Their Lives' a programme that was just on in the UK on Pick TV. They had Murray Walker, Nigel Mansell & Damon Hill all saying how difficult it was for British drivers with names like Nigel to raise sponsorship in comparison to say a Brazilian driver with an exotic name.

I know that he was a driver simply because of my virtual career starting at 1991, and because I was using GP4, Lotus were always qualifiers.

Didn't they have a rather curious arrangement where they shared an Alfa Romeo/Benetton drive (can't remember which). Memory says it was something to do with family business commitments but could be wrong.

One Fabi who was certainly talented was Bertrand Fabi, but the Canadian's career was tragically ended by a fatal F3 testing crash at Goodwood in early 1986 I think. I believe he slid off on ice.

They shared a Brabham drive in 1984, as Teo was also committed to CART that year. Corrado eventually got to drive the Brabham three times when Teo's CART schedule clashed with F1.

Doornbos wasn't Friesacher team mate... it was Albers/Friesacher first, and then Albers/Doornbos...
