Another series you can join! but with a big twist...

Postby MansellsEyebrows » 03 Apr 2012, 19:30

You've seen F1RWRS, F1RM, F1RBGC, REECCS etc.....and they've all been wonderful. But now, I present yet another one, just a very unique one...with:

The FOCARTA Grand Prix World Series.

complete with it's own website that I spent a lot of time on:

http://grandprixworldseries.weebly.com/

Please note the site is very much still under construction, and currently the stuff on there is pretty much everything you need to know, and nothing more.

And so, what is the Grand Prix World Series? The 26 people who enter are team principles, and each choose one of the established teams on the entrants page of the website. Many have an illustrious fictional history (this even comes with a fictional list of champions since 1950). Each team is given a budget of £50 Million to spend on two drivers, two reserve drivers, engines, and car development.

The two main drivers have to be chosen from the drivers list in the drivers market. Each have their own ratings and salary cost accordingly. Engines are also listed in the market, and each have their own cost (the price covers a full seasons' supply) and ratings. All engines and drivers are individual and different. The base cars cost £20 million, but there are also extra developments that can be made at a cost. (In the market these development costs are listed)

Reserve/test drivers can be from the drivers market (although only when the drivers market is closed) and/or drivers that you can create yourself with their own ratings, provided their mean average overall is no higher than 75. Each test/reserve driver will need to be paid a salary of £500,000.

And so how are the races run? Unlike other F1rejects series, this series doesn't use a game, but rather microsoft excel to randomly generate results, based upon the ratings of everything above. In essence, the best team will be the one with the optimal combination of drivers, car and engines. It isn't all about speed though; car reliability, driver sensibility (ie how often they do something stupid and crash into someone) etc will all play a part in the results. The type of track and the suitability of car to the track will also be a factor in results.

Obviously this is a team management game and hopefully should be quite fun. So if you want to join, take a look at the rules and info on the website, as well as picking yourself a team, your two drivers, engine supplier and any extra car developments you may want to add before season start. Prize money will be awarded for results through the season, meaning extra money for car developments if you want to further improve your car. Then just list all of your choices below, but remember drivers are on a first come, first serve basis. Engine suppliers will not supply more than 2 different teams as well. Also note that the 4 manufacturer teams each already use their own engines, and the budget is adjusted for these teams accordingly. You'll also need to give your team principle alter-ego a name.

Also take a look at the race weekend format; It's quite different to what you'd be used to. (2 qualifying races, further consolation race, the the grand prix itself for the 32 qualifiers from 52 entrants)

Or, if you can't be bothered with all that but quite like the idea of the series, put your name down anyway and I'll pick for you (Though only after everyone else has had their picks, and I will give priority of entry to those willing to choose everything straight away).

Deadline for entry and closure of drivers market for the 2012 season: 11th April 23:59
First Race weekend: 12th-15th April 2012

This looks pretty fantastic.

Couple of questions:

-Can you pick a team that doesn't have a profile yet? I'm eyeing up Jourdainn.
-What does 'Available' and 'Unavailable' mean in the market?
Better than 'Tour in a suit case' Takagi.

I may join, but with exams coming up pretty soon, I, can't guarantee that I'll be there all the time, so I'll have to see if it takes up too much time.

Put me down for it anyway.

The 1990s were better. Fact. And you bloody well know it.

Yes you can pick a team without a profile, I just haven't got round to it yet. (I will do once you confirm your drivers, engine etc) so Jourdainn is yours.

'Available' just means the driver or engine is still available to sign, (so when the font is grey, you can sign him) similarly, they are unavailable when the font is red. I should actually have made that more clear, apologies.

If I can just have the rest of your team line up now please :)

By the way, drivers Valianteneuve and Nequericco are already taken

Jourdainn - Bavariauto
Putting the 'pal' back in Team Principal: Ed Kevin
Driver 1: Samuel Kingston
Driver 2: Jacques Laurent

Just under £50 million by my calculations.
Better than 'Tour in a suit case' Takagi.

Driver 1: David Williams
Driver 2: Thomas Hinchcliffe

I think I'm under the 50m.

Looks good.

What is the difference between "Downforce" and "Aerodynamics".

Either way I would like to pick Bennatosa
Hire world champion Keke Raikenberg and Italian Giancarlo Capelirella
And iI would like to go for the fast but fragile Rampante engine.

Bennatosa-Rampante
Team Principle- Stefano Briatorrie
Driver 1:Keke Raikenberg
Driver 2:Giancarlo Capelirella

I am under 50 million.

Brabbenhausen for me. The name of the team principal is Burnie Tacklestone.

Brabbenhousen - Hidekasonic

Driver 1 - Scott Ranger
Driver 2 - Paulo Herdez

Should be 46.9 million with the base car price included.

That's fine. I suggest you enter at the start and either give me all the details for your team now or leave me to do them, and then unless you specify otherwise I can automatically put any prize money you win into car development without you having to worry about it through the season.

What I do need from everyone though is actual names for the team principles, whether it be your real name or an alter-ego (like Ayrton Vasser, for example :D ). And then please state whether you are going to sort your team out yourself or if you want me to.

Thanks

OK then

Maccellaro-Woolfantique
TP: Thomas De Bock
Driver 1: Manuel Zaranasse
Driver 2: Gerhard Scheinkruger
TD: Samuel Jacobs, Nuri Yilmaz

Which gets me to 43.3 million quid.

You'll have to wait until after the driver's market closes until you can name your test/reserve drivers, and I work your costs to come to £45.7 million (£20 million base car, £10 million engine, £8.5 million for Zaranasse, £7.2 million for Scheinkruger) but otherwise it's fine.

Everyone's entries so far have now been listed-thanks guys, this should be fun.

Obviously with modern F1 cars aerodynamics is usually responsible for downforce and straight line speed, but I've split this into 2 forms: downforce as cornering speed, aerodynamics as straight line speed. The more I think about it the more I realize I should have used a better term than 'aerodynamics' which is a bit broad.

Change "aerodynamics" to "drag", and reduce the drag with each improvement ;)

good idea I like it :) I'll change it when I get round to it, though less drag will need to give a higher rating value for the average to be improved consequently, so maybe I'll call it anti-drag :D or - (Drag), or maybe just 'Aero-efficiency'?

www.focartanews.com wrote:Newly appointed team principal of the eternally-likeable Jourdainn team, Ed Kevin, has today urged his team's supporters worldwide to assuage their fears that any change within the team under his stewardship will only be in the pursuit of improved performance.

"I hope to guide the Jourdainn team back to the front of the grid, where it was when I came here originally to work under Edmund Jourdainn and where it deserves to be now," said Kevin today at his first press conference since taking over from Jourdainn, after the latter's trouser-related injuries left him incapable of retaining his position in the team. "Ever since Heinz Helmann's title challenges back in the late 90s we've been working towards taking the next step to consistent race wins and being up in the upper reaches of the grid. Myself and the team think that, while we're taking a revolutionary approach to the 2012 season with two new drivers and a new engine, we'll be finally able to make true on these concerted efforts.

Kevin's press conference came after an internet protest against his appointment, primarily due to claims he got the job based on his nationality, but also as he had previously been seen as a dour character while engaged in the position of Jourdainn's keeping-it-real specialist. Nevertheless, it has been confirmed that the team's all-night parties and tradition of producing specially brewed branded beer will continue during the 2012 race weekends. It remains to be seen how the supposedly straight-laced 2009 world champion Samuel Kingston will adapt to his new surroundings.

Yes it's still open and there are plenty of spots still available. Thanks for your team which I've now added, although I promise Tommy is nothing to do with Power Rangers....The only thing I know about that program is that there was a pink one and a yellow one!

Your details are fine so far, although you have £7.8 million left over at the moment. You can spend that on car development before the season (you can see the costings of this at the bottom of the market page) Though you'll want to leave either £0.5 million for one test/reserve driver, or £1 million for 2. (Though you don't choose these drivers until after the market closes)

I'll pick Andrestinni. Team principal's name is Steve Goodeve Sr.
My drivers will be Zhao Xiangchuang and Thierry Chievert, with Hiryani Nashin and Pedro Gonzalez as reserve drivers.
Andrestinni cars will be powered by Benzenhorst V12 engine.

Team Andrestinni announced their drivers line-up and confirmed their engine deal with renowned German manufacturer Benzenhorst.
- We believe it's going to be a great season for us, and Mr. Andrestinni was kind enough to give us 50 million dollars to wast- spend on everything we needed - said Steve Goodeve Sr., the current team principal.
- Signing Zhao Xiangchuang and Thierry Chievert was probably the best rip- *cough* deal ever seen on driver market, not to mention the Benzenhorst engine which will certainly put us in a strong midfield in this season.

Steve Goodeve Sr. was involved with many racing teams through the years, such as EuroInternational, Greenfield Engineering, Team Menard and Mastercard Lola.

added, though please remember that you have to wait until after the driver's market closes (April 12th) before reserve/test drivers can be signed.

The technical regulations (or a very brief overview of) are now published.

In other news, the legendary sports car manufacturer Austinno Maurintas is reportedly intent on entering GPWS from 2013 onward. Austinno Maurintas did previously compete in GPWS between 1958 and 1964 and took 6 wins in that time, including 2 wins for American James Marston in 1962 when he narrowly missed out on the championship to Bruce Allison and the Brabbenhausen team. We don't know if they want to just supply engines or have a full factory team yet, but in both cases they would have to replace an existent engine manufacturer and then possibly take over a current team if they want to go down that route.

BTW, given that Ferrandino-Rampante is based on Ferrari, can anyone explains what FOCARTA teams and engines are based on? :?

In GPWS we have a liberal rulebook in that area and always have done, hence people ended up with 8 wheels in the early 90s and it's stuck as it provides optimum mechanical grip. Yeah, we are crazy here at FOCARTA

As for the teams, constructors and engines, some are based on reality, others are just completely fictional.I like the balance :D

Specific... sounds a bit like a mid-90s reject team to me ;)

Can anyone point out which is missing and incorrect? :?

There you go. As I say, I've made some completely fictional just for fun. I didn't want to use real team names because of potential licensing issues, and I decided to be creative while I was at it. Call me mad but hopefully it will be fun

The deadline for entries has now passed and we have 22 out of 26 managers. (many are from other sources than just F1rejects, including a few friends etc). The Huntersport, Thaudourus, Specific and Charlestontech have yet to get team managers, but as the drivers market has closed they have been allocated drivers etc. However, if anyone wants to take over any of them then they can.

Team managers can now sign and announce test/reserve drivers, remembering they cost £0.5 million each. They can choose from the left over drivers from the drivers market regardless of their value, or create their own driver with their own stats which do not exceed an overall of 75. These drivers are the only drivers that can replace a first team driver during the season.

The results from all sessions over each weekend will be posted on the Monday after just to save time for myself in all honesty :D

Anyway, the Argentine Grand Prix Weekend is about to get underway and you'll see the results in a couple of days time, and it looks good as there are alot of cars and drivers who seem to be pretty close...

Do test drivers have to be under 75 overall, or does that apply only to our own drivers?

Anyway, if I can have them over 75, I'll take Vitaly Korakinski and Oscar Guerrieri. If not, Nuri Yilmaz and Hiryani Yashin.
