Stumbled upon a website that allows you to predict top ten qualifiers.
Here's mine for China:

1. Hamilton
2. Vettel
3. Rosberg
4. Button
5. Raikkonen
6. Alonso
7. Schumacher
8. Hulkenberg
9. Ricciardo
10. Grosjean

Here's the site for those interested:

Hate to call someone out, but when a user registers, immediately talks about gambling, then posts a link to a website called "betonf1" then I start getting suspicious.

Yes, but then DSedgwick already made a few posts that aren't anywhere near SPAM levels and so passed a inverted Turing Test in my opinion. It is just that gambling looks his thing.

I guess it's time now that Enoch with all his expertise in law creates an official guideline for this forum as far as sport betting or gambling is concerned. As rejectworthy as the Las Vegas racetrack of the early 80s used to be, this could turn out to be interesting. But then, there is also Monaco, the duchy financed by gambling. And Ferrari is sometimes still called "un grande casino" ;-)
“Mexico City is a better place to hold the (Mexican GP) than Cancun,” said Ecclestone. “In more or less any city around the world you could ask people ‘where is Mexico City?’ and they would say ‘Mexico’.”

Having a few pounds on a race really spices it up for me.
I've been watching F1 since Vegas '82 but only got interested in the
betting side fairly recently. It's you against the bookie and I love the
opportunity of proving them wrong

I understand that you may like a flutter, but to be honest, I would rather this forum remain commercial-link-free, even if bona fide (unless it is for motorsport merchandise, posted by legitimate members as DSedgewick appears to be, from legit sources, and links are kept to a minimum).

In which case, there isn't a problem then is there? Come on people, entire sports are kept afloat by the betting industry (I'm thinking primarily of horse racing), and its not like kids aren't exposed to betting sites and shops in the high street or on TV. We can see that DSedgewick is obviously a genuine honest member, and if he has an interest in the betting side of F1 so be it. There's been a few other threads started on the topic and he's not the only one contributing. You wouldn't tell someone interested in another aspect of the sport to piss off, so why be so hostile here?

And besides, using the 'minors' argument is quite frankly ridiculous anyway because as far as I'm concerned, 8 year olds shouldn't be on the internet at all, and if they are, they do so either under the supervision of their parents or at their own risk. Whilst I want this to remain a family forum, we're not a creche, and to deprive an honest member of posting about one of his interests in the sport because kids might see is just retarded in my opinion and sums up everything that's wrong with today's society.

Yeah, I was wondering what the first sentence of my post was adding so I am just about to go and delete it (that first sentence). Basically the thrust of my argument, I think, is let's discuss whatever interests us about the sport, but let's not promote any one business in particular. Why betonf1 rather than William Hill or any of the other gambling places? Other betting outlets are available, as the BBC would state...

That's fair enough, but still, people have personal preference in betting outlets, just like they do in F1 news outlets, and anything else. Just relax, let the guy post and get comfortable here, and it'll all be fine. :)

This thread sort of needs to be locked.

Hi guys,

On balance, I am going to lock this thread, for a few reasons.

There are already several different threads set up each Grand Prix dealing with predictions. Although they may not necessarily involve picking the top ten qualifiers, I think we have sufficient threads for making predictions for the time being.

The only thing that would then differentiate this thread is the betting element, and I think it might be better if the closest we come to discussing wagers on this forum is the rejectdom avatar challenge, and I think I'd prefer not to link to an actual betting site.

If sports betting is your kind of thing, then sure, go ahead. Jamie is obviously a participant (as our Indian live coverage attests)! Indeed, I have my own personal views on gambling and I remember having a lengthy discussion about it with Jamie in Melbourne one year when we were down there for the GP!

And having seen some of DSedgwick's other posts - welcome aboard, no doubting you're legit, and best of luck with your Shanghai predictions!

Cheers,
Enoch
