Forums were down about an hour ago for me - it's getting to the point where they're down at least once or twice a week for me.

I hate to play the blame game, but I am tempted to point the finger at F1 Rejects Webmaster Jamie McGregor. Their long-time site hosts are rubbish, their servers often hit downtime, and the daysofyorr.com malicious link STILL hasn't been removed from the forums! Jamie! Finger out! Do something!

I am a little concerned about that malicious link (it seems to still be partially active - I had a warning recently come up about a blocked attack), and over the past few days the forums have been sluggish, with the web pages sometimes failing to load altogether. That said, can you recommend who they might turn to to host the site instead of their current providers?

Any number of hosts actually. If they want to cut costs, I've found X10 Hosting to be a very good free hoster, but if they don't feel like taking that risk, I understand HostGator is a pretty good paid hoster, at US$3.71 per month isn't going to break the bank either.

I don't know if it's possible to create an 'archive' of posts using the phpBB Admin tools that can be exported or transferred to another phpBB board, but I would suggest something along those lines and scrapping this forum entirely. If the malicious code has become completely embedded in the forum it could be difficult to remove. I can't even find it actually, it's not in the html source for this page so I don't know where said malicious code is located.

But what would all those people in the Forum Facts thread who care about their post count do?

A fair question. A few years of hard posting work down the sewer for them.

But would be a great shame to lose all the F1RWRS stuff, unless there's a way of archiving all this?

Yep, that is true. In the middle of all the garbage we post there are some fine pieces of informative posts and threads that would worth be keeping around. Not to mention some of the discussions that went around at the time of certain events that may contain valuable details we tend to forget each passing year.

Here's a 'tough' choice for some of you: A high post-count, or a reliable virus-free forum? Hmmm...

If we were to move to a new home, I'd definitely consider renaming myself. Nothing too drastic, something like 'Tora', in honour of another late-90s easily forgotten Japanese reject.

Also, we could always just decamp over here.

Ah yes we could, but the main admin over there (who admitedly hasn't been online in ages) doesn't like threads going off-topic, so we'd all be in trouble if we go there!

I agree - there have been a number of members on this forum who have unearthed some excellent bits of information over the years (I'm thinking of the photos of reject teams and drivers that Faustus has uploaded, for example, which are pretty much unique). That said, one advantage of moving would be the possibility of leaving the spam bots behind, if it was possible (yet another spam bot has registered in the past few minutes)...

The forum has been very slow for me today as well

I was also having a few problems earlier today when the forum failed to load, although that was relatively short lived (maybe half an hour or so) - on the whole, the general performance of the forum has been better than it used to be, but there have been a few times when it has fallen back to the "bad old days", as it were.
