I've already put £250 on that Renault to fail - nothing personal, just a hunch based on recent experience...

Nope. Since there's two races left and if Zimmer doesn't win at Adelaide there will be rioting (by Zimmer) this will Takagi's last chance to take that seat saving victory. No pressure

And how many times have Kickert and Whitechapel qualified together now?

In that case I'm considering putting him at Ferrari next year, considering the guy that owns O'Connell have yet to confirm him. :)

Both drivers did good at the qualifying today, BTW. ;)

Needed to get this out there before the forum shutdown.
Round 16: Pacific GP
(Ignore the Japanese title at the top)

There are some things that bring the sport into disrepute. Telling your driver to intentionally crash so your other driver can win the race brings the sport into disrepute. Spying on another team's data brings the sport into disrepute. Having alleged Nazi themed (wait, the court said it wasn't Nazi themed) sado-masochistic sex with five prostitutes in a dingy London dungeon while you're the president of the FIA brings the sport into disrepute. That said, the events at this weekend's Pacific GP have gone one step beyond. The F1RGP2C is now the laughingstock of the entire racing community. Yes, it was that bad...

It didn't start out that badly. Zimmer went into the lead followed by Moreno and the rest of the field. No one retired or spun for the first ten laps. Then, on lap 11, Poppy Whitechapel went off at Turn 10 and hit the wall, immediately knocking off a wheel and going out of the race. From that point on, it was MADNESS! Pieter Kickert followed into retirement with a suspension failure on Lap 13. Then, the championship was decided on Lap 15 (more on that in a sec), George Tramontani had a spectacular engine failure and Padraig O'Connell spun out of third place at Turn 10. The Ferrari driver was followed by everyone who remained in the field as they all spun off at the same spot! Then Davies broke his front wing at a different corner, Takagi spun off and spent the better part of three minutes to get back onto the track (not helped by Max von Hegel, who rammed straight into him, breakin). Zimmer did the same thing and got tangled with Tom Douglas in the process, leaving Jorg Scrattenheim in the lead by a massive margin. He was using his Formula Nippon experience to full effect, even though he did spin off in front of the pits.

A few laps later, the second event that I'll get to later occurred so Scrattenheim was basically free to win the race without any interruptions (other than a second spin in front of the pits). O'Connell retired with an engine failure and Takagi was forced to drive his way through the field after his spin. Scrattenheim won by over a lap, the largest margin of victory in F1RGP2C history and his first career victory. He was followed by McAllister, who secured McLaren's position in the Constructors' with a brilliant drive, Takagi, Reiko Megumi, Leonhard von Gottorp and Davies. Now, who finished in seventh place? Oh, Douglas Mann, how are you feeling? For rage-quitting from his team, watching Scrattenheim take his deserved win, betting on the Renault to fail and being relatively anonymous, Douglas Mann wins Reject of the Race.

After watching, I finally determined that the problems at Turn 10 were caused by tyre wear which meant that whenever a driver came in for a stop he spun off at the turn and speared sharply right due to a glitch in the game. That meant that almost every driver threw the car off the road at least twice. Compounding this was the odd behavior of some drivers, who decided that they would drive into the pits at 100mph and promptly spin it at the entrance, wasting even more time. This basically meant that pit stops took anywhere from normal time (Samael Meerwick was the only driver who didn't spin) to almost three minutes (as in the case of Kaz Takagi). Other than the fact that this is extremely dangerous, it is really stupid. Who designs tyres that can't make a corner at one of the circuits? Who designed this race course? Reject of the Race for TI Aida and Goodyear.

READ HERE FOR CHAMPIONSHIP RESULT

Has anyone noticed that Pablo da Silva is having a terrible season? He keeps getting outqualified by Kickert and seems to have totally regressed from last year, a la Tiago Monteiro. However, he hasn't done anything stupid, he's just been a bit slow. At least, that was before the Pacific GP. I now refer to the video.

I suppose Pablo wasn't content with knocking Moreno out of the race and ruining his championship dreams so he took out Zimmer too. Tom Douglas was disqualified and banned for one race for crashing into one leader while being lapped at the Canadian GP. Since Pablo took out three cars who were trying to lap him (von Gottorp actually came back and passed Davies on the last lap), Pablo will be banned for three races, including next season, and he has already been disqualified from this race. He will also receive a suspended one-race ban for ramming aside John Zimmer's car while it was being removed. Reject of the Race for Pablo da Silva. Speaking of John Zimmer's car, what the hell was the track marshal doing by moving the car onto the circuit while cars were circulating? Adding to general incompetence and the incident that occurred earlier, the Pacific GP Marshals win Reject of the Race, as well. In fact, Tristan Jung's ridiculous plan to put Formula Nippon drivers in the F1 cars deserves Reject of the Race.

TL;DR So, in conclusion, IIDOTR and race win for Scrattenheim, Zimmer clinches the championship, TI Aida, Douglas Mann, Goodyear, Pablo da Silva, Tristan Jung and the Pacific GP Marshals all win a shared ROTR, everybody spins at Turn 10 and Rory McAllister is a boss. Constructors' title still in reach for Williams.

Megumi has done exactly what was expected by Ligier, as Ligier now managed to overtake Tyrrell in the constructors championship! Mignolet will take back the seat in what will be his last race.

Meanwhile, Van Dycke has stated in some Belgian talk-show that he has a depression. It is unknown for what reason.

Chris Forbes and Sauber need to confirm a second driver for Sauber now that da Silva has been banned. Also, the GP1 paint editor is simple enough for my pitiful art skills so if any team wants to run a special livery, the seatholder can request a livery. Due to game limitations, both drivers must have the same livery. Only colors, no sponsors, please.

I have decided to move Scrattenheim down to Sauber for one race.

Despite never being in a racecar ever before, Prince Walik has decided to drive the Williams himself and he promises to win.

That was basically the story of qualifying as Mann puts his Ligier fourth on the grid, well ahead of Prince Walik in the other Williams. Max von Hegel proves that he's still got it by qualifying the DAMS in a brilliant 17th (no doubt aided by traffic), and Jorg Scrattenheim was way off the pace in the Sauber. Also, Forti ends the year with a double-DNQ, nearly two seconds off the pace. Ouch.

Alright, I admit it, I switched all the performance files, just to see what would happen.

DOUGLAS MANN WINS IN THE LIGIER!

Do I even have to mention any other positives? Douglas Mann gains vengeance on Prince Walik by winning the race, taking fastest lap and stopping Williams from winning the Constructors' Championship! In a Ligier! He also lapped Prince Walik and beat his old teammate by over twenty seconds! Needless to say, Douglas Mann wins IIDOTR for the weekend. Okay, he was helped by unfortunate mechanical problems for John Zimmer and Padraig O'Connell and whoever manufactures the transmissions for these teams (seriously, what was up with that) but it was a fine win for Ligier and Douglas Mann.

Other Positives:

Prince Walik: Hey, a podium and unrejectification in your first race isn't so bad. Especially when people were saying this:
Wizzie wrote:What? This is going to be quite possibly the most rejectful attempt to race ever
Walik silenced the doubters and performed admirably in his first race although he was also helped by the high attrition rate among the frontrunners.

Max von Hegel: He finished 8th! In a DAMS! In the chassis that Pippa Mann had all but written off a couple races ago! Heck, if a few drivers dropped out, he might've finished in the points!

McLaren: A fine way to end the season.

Negatives:

Transmissions

John Zimmer: Looks like Zimmer is developing a Mark Webber-esque curse in Australia after yet another retirement while leading. Disappointment for the home fans but at least he went home to the Constructors' and Drivers' Championship, unlike this lot...

Daniel Moreno: Nothing could have gone better for the Williams team. Both Benettons retired with mechanical problems and Moreno only had to catch the Ligier of Douglas Mann to clinch an improbable Constructors' title for Williams. Moreno came within nine seconds before he inexplicably fell back and finished twenty seconds behind. [insert Douglas Mann looking smug here]

Miko Fakkinen: The most anonymous driver in the field finished in an anonymous 14th place.

Simtek: Goodbye Simtek. Your utter and abject failure will never be forgotten...

Jorg Scrattenheim: Choosing ROTR was a tough one this time. I was tempted to nominate Williams or Prince Walik for firing Douglas Mann but they did come within three points of winning the Constructors' and Walik finished in a competent third. Benetton and Tyrrell were also pretty rejectful. However, I decided to choose Jorg Scrattenheim as Reject of the Race for the Australian GP for his awful performance in the Sauber. Pieter Kickert finished four laps ahead of him in an almost identical car (and after making an extra stop after a throttle problem)! After last week's glory, Scrattenheim takes out ROTR for his miserable performance.

Leaders:
O'Connell: 1-6
Zimmer: 7-15
O'Connell: 16-28
Mann: 29-

Final championship standings will be posted in the wrap-up posts (which includes spreadsheets, driver rankings, team rankings, and ROTY).

Of course he will drive for us next year, the way he has turned around the performance of the car is stunning. He actually managed to make Megumi fast! Sadly we cannot keep her, but i would advice any other team to give her a chance.

Masta Valsattis:
Well, my re-building year with Forti has given me a lot of confidence for 1996. In a year where we were expected to do nothing, I've taken the car into the race several times and was delighted with my performance at Japan. Next year, I have Douglas Mann as my team-mate and am delighted to be working with someone of his calibre. I'm confident we can challenge the McLaren and Jordan drivers every weekend and aim for 4th in the Constructors Championship.
For explanation on recent inactivity, please read 2nd post on 2nd page of 'just nipping out' thread. Thank you.

Don't worry about Megumi not racing, because after 3 races, Mann will quite Ligier anyway. Remember how good the 1996 Ligier was in reality? ;)

We'll see. So long as the car is reliable, Douglas won't mind as much. It was just not being able to capitalise on the Williams's pace while his teammate was doing so well!

GrandPrix.com wrote:U-turn on breach-of-contract lawsuit: Megumi

THE CURRENTLY inactive Ligier driver Reiko Megumi has declared U-turn on breach-of-contract lawsuit.

"Well, Ligier just told me that [Douglas] Mann would only drive for the first 3 races for next year", said Megumi to the journalists. "I just not aware of that", added her.

Megumi has also hinted that she may took over Masta Valsattis in event Ligier fired Valsattis, in event Mann continues for entire 1996. "If Mann continues permanently for 1996, and Ligier fires Valsattis for being dead-beat, that would be a good oppurtinity", said Megumi.

Any word on Takagi's future, by the way? :?

Takagi will not have his Benetton contract renewed for next season. Benetton are now assessing drivers for the second seat. Anyone want to volunteer?
