Webber was dominant, while Rosberg and Kubica battled for the 2nd place. Webber clinched the title after victory in Japan while Rosberg retired.
Kobayashi lost lots of points in early season retirements. Toro Rosso point comparison has quite a turnaround.

Bleu - since you originally thought of this idea, would you like to do the "backwards" version of this? (i.e. start with 2009 excluding Vettel, and exluding all "future" champions from earlier years)?

If not I'd quite like to do it myself!

BTW, really impressed with Kovalainen's total, what a great performance from a new team driver!

Sorry to resurrect this again, but I was having another play around with this format (this format with various points systems, and No Real Champions to me are the most realistic Alternative Championships), because something in one of the season's results really caught my eye, and I've worked out that if something slightly different had happened (ie Coulthard not had his pitlane crash at Adelaide '95 he won have been champion instead of Herbert - and he won under medals for this elimination), then anyone want a guess at who would have been a champion a few years down the line, at Herbert's expense (Herbert doesn't win at all if he loses 95)?

If anyone thought Herbert being a champion is weird, then this one (and also given his car) is even more odd!

Not 100% sure, but I would say Kubica.

Irvine takes 1998, Ralf 1999, JPM 2001, Kimi 2002, Alonso 2003, Fisi 2005, Massa 2006 which leaves Kubica for 2008.

It has to be Heidfeld in the 2001 Sauber. He finished only one point behind Montoya in the original version of this, but JPM had lots of retirements and with no Ralf Schumacher (as he would be eliminated in '1999) Quick Nick easily passes the Colombian.

And he would be the first champion of this who didn't win a race IRL since Beltoise.

Shame on you, DC!

Yes it was Heidfeld in 2001!! :mrgreen:

Basically after 95 with Coulthard out it's Villenueve in 96, Frentzen in 97 (as here), Irvine easily wins 98 with no DC, Ralf gets 99 with no Irvine, Barrichello easily gets 2000 as here, and so with Ralf out for 2001 as well, Heidfeld gains more than JPM does, and not only that, Raikkonen also beats JPM for runners up!

Basically it's impossible for JPM to win 2001 even with lots of eliminations, as he only finished in 6 races! 2002 he was much more consistent even without a real-life win.

(Actually continuing it on from there Massa beats Fisi in '06 on tiebreak but more wins too with Heidfeld out, so Kubica wins 2008 as well - but that happened as well in the one I did with the 2010 points from the start, so wasn't as shocking as Heidfeld winning 2001!).

Also Hamilton got 150 points out of a possible 170 in 2007!!!! (14 wins, 5th at Nurburgring, 3rd in Brazil, retirement in China)

I haven't worked out 2009 and 2010 yet, maybe with Kubica and Heidfeld both ouu of 2009 that could change things between the Red Bull drivers, I'd have loved Webber to have beaten Vettel when both are still eligible!

Vettel does beat Webber in 2009 even with Heidfeld and Kubica out, but only by 3.5 points - Webber had a comfortable lead before the non-scoring run in Monza/Singapore/Suzuka

Actually thinking about it, Nick probably is one of the favourites to take this year's title here - we have both Red Bulls, McLarens, Ferraris, Schumacher and Barrichello all eliminated as former champions. Kubica is out of the equation due to his injury. If Heidfeld doesn't complete the season it will disadvantage him, and you'd think Rosberg is probably favourite on paper but by all accounts Mercedes are struggling. If Mercedes are in trouble, and Kubica and Heidfeld share a seat by Robert returning before the end of the year then...............KAMUI KOBAYASHI WDC????????????????

(Sadly Sauber lose a double podium and Perez would have been a sensational 2nd on his debut - but Di Resta unrejectifies himself straight away with 4th!!)

I'd say this should be a good 3-way scrap between Rosberg and the Renault drivers - unless Kubica returns which would probably scupper Heidfeld's chances, assuming it's him who makes way rather than Petrov. (In the other version of this I did which used the current point system since way back, Kubica is already eliminated due to winning 2008, as Massa beat Fisichella in 2006).

Also it's surely only a matter of time before Kobayashi wins a race? And HRT score points?

Rosberg's three straight wins (China, Turkey, Spain) give him a big boost, although he hasn't been that good in other races. Kobayashi took great victory at Monaco and Liuzzi salvaged a point for HRT! Petrov's two DNFs hurt him badly, although he managed to get one point in Malaysia as he was classified and many drivers retiring.

I think a lot might hinge on Kubica coming back as he's still in this championship unlike the similar medals one.

Without him you're looking at someone like Petrov, Sutil or Kobayashi being champion!

It seems as though looking at these alternative championships, Force India always seem to beat Renault - Renault could well have been in trouble without those two early 3rd places.

Assuming the performance levels are close to what they were at the end of the year, next year will be interesting as there are no Red Bulls, McLarens, Ferraris or Mercs, also eliminated are Räikkönen and Barrichello assuming he gets a seat for 2012.

Sauber finish one-two in Germany. Kobayashi becomes the second driver after Grosjean to win more than one race this season while Pérez takes the championship lead with his second place. In Belgium, Hülkenberg wins for the second time this season, taking the championship lead. Toro Rosso has a great result with Vergne finishing second (his first podium) and Ricciardo third. Di Resta's fourth place means that the Force India drivers are now first and second in the championship. De la Rosa was the only finisher not to get points. Grosjean's race ban could prove costly as he is already sixteen points behind Hülkenberg.

For once, a driver manages to not only stay in the championship lead but also extend it as Di Resta wins for the second time. He is joined on the podium by Grosjean, making his return after a race ban, and Ricciardo who continues Toro Rosso's recent streak of good results. However, the biggest surprise of the day is Timo Glock's fifth place, the best result of the year for Marussia.
