Going back on topic... in F1 2009 Buemi keeps unrejectifying himself... while Kubica keeps not scoring in the points... Oh, and Rosberg keeps placing in second, while Nakajima always keeps himself in Q1... I've never seen him get out of Q1 to be quite honest.

Jan Magnussen and Philippe Alliot would probably have been better choices.

Just picked up F1 Career Challenge today, and after a very scrappy first race in Australia where I finished 10th, I've won my first race for Sauber by holding off Mika Hakkinen for pretty much the entire race in Brazil. Williams are also second in the Constructors' Championship, 1 behind Ferrari, with 10 of their 12 points being scored by none other than Alex Zanardi! Luca Badoer also finished 8th in Australia, in a race with not much attrition, and at one stage I thought he was going to score a point.

In the Drivers' Championship, Michael Schumacher is leading with 13 points, with me and Zanardi tied for second, Hakkinen on 6, Coulthard on 4, and Irvine and Frentzen still to score, so things are going to be interesting when Schumacher's injury comes around.

That's the PS2 equivalent of F1 Challenge for the PC isn't it? It's what I use for Sammy Jones' career, the original game had a number of issues with it's AI performances and strategies so I ended up downloading a patch which made it much better. Still a number of bugs in it though that luckily don't affect the gameplay. I imagine the PS2 version is significantly better in that respect though.

Yeah, Career Challenge is basically the same as F1 Challenge 99-02, the main difference being an actual "career" mode (hence the different name), where you had to work your way up from the back of the grid. But I've read that the career mode was rather poorly implemented. Yet I'd still love to get my hands on it (after all, my most recent F1 game for PlayStation is Formula One 99!), as I've always liked the possibility of a proper career in sports games.

The AI is pretty good in this version, as long as I don't fiddle with the settings, although they're really slow on the run to turn 1 for some reason. The biggest problem I have is that the collision detection with walls is absolute garbage - there's like an invisible barrier before the actual wall, which is alright on most tracks, but it's a nightmare in Monaco. I have a very aggressive driving style, but because I can't see where the actual walls are, I'm forever bouncing like a pinball, which is extremely frustrating.

I had Vitantonio Liuzzi leading the world championship after two races in F1 2010 career. Very interesting start to season, he took 3rd and 4th (27 points), but the drivers ahead failed miserably in other race.

Okay, decision time. After a string of 3 mediocre races after my 1st win, I've bounced back with a win from pole and a 3rd at Canada and France, respectively, and am now 2nd in the championship, 16 points behind David Coulthard. I can move to either Stewart or Williams, or stay at Sauber. I think I want to stay at Sauber, but I want to get some second opinions.

Cheers Shinji, Moreno didn't stay there, dropped to 14th by the end of the next lap, up to 10th after someone was holding everyone up on the main straight on the last lap and he just passed them. Tarquini actually finished 7th.

It's '99. I already decided to stay at Sauber, and I've won another race in Austria after doing nothing in Britain, where, somehow, Damon Hill won. I've slipped behind Hakkinen in the championship now, while Coulthard's pretty much uncatchable. I think I'll be able to hang on to 3rd, though - Ferrari are completely hopeless, Irvine's had several races where he should've done well and then didn't, Salo's even slower. Zanardi and Hill are now, somehow, my biggest threats from behind, and they're more inconsistent than me.

Funnily enough, I finally (after looking for it for a fair while) picked up this game a couple of weekends ago in a charity shop. Having breezed through the Superlicence tests, I also picked Sauber for the first season. That's where the similarities end though as I've finished last of the finishers in both of the first 2 races! (in Brazil, about 7 seconds behind Sarrazin, the shame!!!)
For some reason, I'm utterly terrible at nearly all PS2 racing games.

Try messing with the car setup. I've found that putting the aerodynamics all the way towards grip really helps, even at Hockenheim. I've also found that it's possible to take most corners flat out for some reason, for example, in Austria I only had to brake for the first 3 proper corners, the rest I could keep the throttle down with the steering wheel locked left or right. It takes some practice to find out exactly where you can do stuff like that, since it doesn't always make much sense - again, going back to Austria, I was completely stumped how I was losing about 3 seconds in the final sector, until I realised I could take the last corner flat out if I turned at exactly the right point.

Upgrade-wise, I'd recommend going for brakes over engine, unless you're having problems with pitstops. Finally, if all else fails, while taking shortcuts in qualifying will result in a deleted lap, you can do them pretty much constantly in the race with only verbal warnings. Hope that helps.

Cheers for these tips, I'll give them a go. I did notice that you can do most of the corners at Interlagos flat. Pretty sure that wasn't the case with Melbourne though. I'd also noticed the shortcuts!
I think I will split upgrades between brakes and pit stops then as I'm pretty terrible at pit stops for some reason.

I'll let you know how I get on, although if I improve that does mean I won't be a reject much longer which makes me torn! After all, technically we're both Diniz!!

It's rFactor, you'll have to buy it. It's the 1992 mod, just released a couple of days ago. There's a good 1990 mod, only 12 teams on it so far, but Coloni and Life are on it.

You can download a trial version which you can use for one hour, but after that hour you have to "unlock" the game by purchasing a licence key.

You can play the trial for more than 1 hour, but you have to stay in the game for more than an hour. If you quit, it'll bug you to buy the full version. I stayed in for something like 2-3 hours, but obviously got bored, and went back to the one and only F1 Challenge 99-02...

Sadly, now that I've finally got a computer that has more than enough horsepower to run F1 Challenge 99-02 in full detail, my gaming experience is very limited. To put it simply, I can't play any mods. All of the original seasons work fine, but if I try to start a race in any of the mods, the game CTDs. Worse still, the crash seems to corrupt the game files somehow, as when I try to re-start the game, it crashes either before the main menu or when I try to start any race, be it an original or a mod one. Which leaves me no other choice but to re-install the game. I guess I'll have to stick with the original seasons, then...

Stupid Windows 7, "gamer's OS" my buttocks!

Just put "Windows 98 Compatible Mode" and it will run normally! At least, that's what I think.

Try Windows 95. If that doesn't work, the most useful setting to start off with would be to disable the visual themes and desktop composition. You'll have to play around with it, but most likely you can get the game working this way. If not, sorry. :(

If all else fails I could always fly to Finland and try to fix it with blutac and a toothpick*

*No, seriously. I have fixed a wiring fault in one of my sets of headphones using just those two things.

BlindCaveSalamander wrote:It's '99.

Well, it turns out that Coulthard wasn't uncatchable after all. I was 19 points behind after Germany, but winning in Hungary and Belgium while Coulthard failed to score in both catapulted me into the lead. I then won in Italy, with Coulthard 2nd, increasing my lead to 5 points, which then increased to 9 when I finished 3rd in the European Grand Prix and Coulthard didn't score again. I didn't score in Malaysia, leaving it open for Coulthard to get back in the championship, but instead he finished 5th. He then crashed out or something in Japan, leaving me to win the race and finish on 79 points, with a 17 point advantage. Talk about dropping the ball.

Notable results include Salo managing to win his last race for Ferrari, with Hakkinen completing a Finnish 1-2 at the Nurburgring. Herbert also dominated in Malaysia, which was nice to see. I'm also pretty sure Hakkinen wound up not winning a race all year. Williams fell apart as the season wore on, although Zanardi did beat Ralf Schumacher, Frentzen never once looked like what he was in the real thing, and Michael Schumacher didn't score in either of his returning races.

For 2000, I can either go to Ferrari or McLaren, or stay at Sauber. All of which are valid options, since I think Herbert beat Barrichello at Stewart, and there was no excuse for Coulthard losing the championship.

EDIT: After giving it some thought, I'll be going to McLaren.

Only in a game could you get away with making a video as atrocious as this.

(As an added bonus there are some shots of my career from about 1:15 but there's also one clip fairly early in the film)

Woohoo! I've got GP2 to work on my new laptop!

For some reason I could never get it to work on the desktop using either Dosbox or Virtual PC but it seems to be running, with sound, at normal speed on the laptop - I'm so happy that it's actually quite tragic, as my wife will testify.

Now to download GP2Edit and rediscover the many carsets that I used to have on my ancient PC!

JJ Lehto? Even Frentzen would be better!
