Michele Alboreto would be unluckiest driver of the year in 1992, didn't he come 7th about 6 times.

IIRC, he scored Shadow's first podium, then one more point, then did squat the rest of the year.

And I remember this being commented on in another alternative championship, but Tim Schenken (whoever he is) wins a race here too. It was the first elimination one I think, when I read his name I thought "who?"!

Is he the early 70s equivalent of someone like, say, Pedro De Rosa, since I thought it was mad that De La Rosa won a race in 2001 in the Jaguar on "Backwards Elimination"?! :)

Jochen Mass 29,5 (2 wins, 1 3rd*)

Carlos Pace 16 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Jody Scheckter 15 (1 win)
Emerson Fittipaldi 14 (1 3rd)

Lella Lombardi 4,5 (1 win*)
Jean-Pierre Jarier 2 (1 3rd*)
Jacques Laffite 2 (1 5th)
Jacky Ickx 1 (1 5th*)

Amazingly, Lauda is champion in this alternative version too!

Spanish and Austrian GPs worth of half points. But Lella Lombardi wins a race, although she gets only half points.

Apart from Hunt and Lauda being down in mid-table, that 1976 championship actually looks quite close to reality! :)

Poor old Jochen Mass has come close on loads of these alternative championships (this, no real champions and backwards/forwards elimination) but never actually won one IIRC!

1979
John Watson 44 (3 wins, 1 2nd, 2 3rd)
Jean-Pierre Jarier 36 (2 wins, 2 2nd)
Jody Scheckter 35 (40)(1 win, 1 2nd, 4 3rd)

Clay Regazzoni 23 (26) (1 win, 1 2nd)
Mario Andretti 23 (2 2nd, 2 3rd)
Patrick Depailler 18 (19) (2 2nd, 1 3rd)
Rene Arnoux 16 (1 win)
Carlos Reutemann 16 (20) (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Gilles Villeneuve 16 (17) (1 2nd)
Jacky Ickx 15 (1 win, 1 2nd)
Niki Lauda 13 (1 win, 1 3rd)
Jacques Laffite 13 (3 4th)
Alan Jones 10 (11) (1 3rd)
Emerson Fittipaldi 9 (1 win)
Hans-Joachim Stuck 6 (1 2nd)
Riccardo Patrese 6 (1 2nd)
Elio de Angelis 4 (1 3rd)
Nelson Piquet 4 (1 3rd)
Jean-Pierre Jabouille 1 (1 6th)

Only half of the races are counted so lots of dropped scores here. No effect on title however.

Poor old Jabouille really suffers there, it's highly unusual for someone's only points in reality to be a win, therefore becoming one measly point in this - same will happen in 1980 too!

1980
Didier Pironi 34 (2 wins, 1 3rd)
Carlos Reutemann 34(38) (1 win, 1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Alain Prost 33 (3 wins, 1 2nd)
Gilles Villeneuve 30 (2 wins, 2 2nd)
Nelson Piquet 28 (1 2nd, 3 3rd)
Jacques Laffite 21 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Elio de Angelis 19 (1 win, 2 3rd)
Jean-Pierre Jarier 18 (3 2nd)
Alan Jones 16 (17) (2 4th)
Jochen Mass 13 (1 win, 1 3rd)
Emerson Fittipaldi 12 (1 win)
Bruno Giacomelli 12 (2 2nd)
Riccardo Patrese 11 (1 win)
Mario Andretti 9 (1 win)
Hector Rebaque 9 (1 win)
Keke Rosberg 9 (1 2nd)
John Watson 8 (2 3rd)
Derek Daly 8 (2 3rd)
Jody Scheckter 6 (1 2nd)
Jean-Pierre Jabouille 1 (1 6th)

Close. Poor Reutemann who suffers from dropped scores rule. Therefore it's Pironi who takes second title.

Next we go to the years which James1978 has predicted in page 1.

Derek Daly?????

My goodness I did NOT see that one coming! I said Alboreto for my prediction and he's only 4th. I didn't even consider Daly due to the few occasions he scored points on, but I guess they were all 5ths and 6ths........

No 5th place awarded at Brazil following Rosberg's disqualification. Another Williams 1-2, and interestingly Piquet beats Prost by two points as he did in real life, although here it wasn't for the championship.

Flippin 'eck - the triple world champion dies early the season after a bad start to the year, that sounds rather familiar! :(

That looks surprisingly similar to "No Real Champions" at that point in the season.......think my original prediction is looking quite good at this point mid you!

Reckon Schumi could do that in 2003 as he had a few 6ths, 7ths, and 8ths when it went a pit pear-shaped for him (Malaysia, Hockenheim, Japan, Hungary)!!! Don't think my original prediction for that year is much good to be honest!

Arnoux finishes second!

AGAIN!
Go home, Bernie Ecclestone!

"So, no KERS?"
"No kerbs, KERBS, as in the side of the circuit."

Rene Arnoux 9 (1 win)
Ivan Capelli 9 (1 win)
Roberto Moreno 9 (1 win)

Martin Brundle 6 (1 2nd)
Yannick Dalmas 6 (1 2nd)*
Andrea de Cesaris 3 (1 4th)

This championship had cruel ending. Senna was disqualified following the season-ending Australian GP, robbing his fifth place and the title as a result! I love the fact that Alliot would have won the title with medal system!

I'm amazed Senna's so far up here to be honest! He was usually about podiums (mostly wins) and retirements, not lots of low-points finishes!

I can't stop laughing at how 7 5ths for Prost is his joint best result.
