I predict a good 1998 for Jacques Villeneuve.

Sorry, but Senna's disqualification from the title is even better in my view.

1989
Derek Warwick 39 (3 wins, 2 2nd)
Alessandro Nannini 32 (1 win, 1 2nd, 2 3rd)
Thierry Boutsen 28 (1 win, 2 3rd)
Riccardo Patrese 28 (1 2nd, 2 3rd)
Nelson Piquet 27 (1 win, 1 2nd, 3 3rd)
Alain Prost 27(29) (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Martin Brundle 24 (2 wins, 1 2nd)
Pierluigi Martini 21 (1 win, 2 2nd)
Jonathan Palmer 18 (2 wins)
Jean Alesi 14 (1 2nd, 2 3rd)
Alex Caffi 13 (1 win, 1 3rd)
Nigel Mansell 12 (2 4th)
Johnny Herbert 10 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Gabriele Tarquini 9 (1 win)
Olivier Grouillard 9 (1 win)
Luis Perez Sala 9 (1 win)
Philippe Alliot 9 (1 win)
Michele Alboreto 9 (1 2nd)
Eddie Cheever 9 (1 2nd)
Stefan Johansson 9 (1 2nd)
Ayrton Senna 8 (1 5th)
Rene Arnoux 6 (1 2nd)
Emanuele Pirro 6 (1 2nd)
Gerhard Berger 5 (2 5th)
Christian Danner 4 (1 3rd)
Satoru Nakajima 4 (1 3rd)
Mauricio Gugelmin 3 (1 4th)
Stefano Modena 3 (1 4th)
Andrea de Cesaris 3 (1 4th)

A record of point-scorers and not very consistent drivers. Warwick's five point-finishes which are all in top two is enough for title.

Nelson Piquet 56(57) (2 wins, 4 2nd, 2 3rd)
Thierry Boutsen 47 (1 win, 4 2nd, 2 3rd)
Riccardo Patrese 45 (2 wins, 3 2nd, 2 3rd)
Gerhard Berger 37 (1 2nd, 3 3rd)
Alain Prost 28(29) (1 2nd, 2 3rd)
Satoru Nakajima 27 (3 wins)
Alessandro Nannini 25 (1 win, 2 3rd)
Eric Bernard 22 (2 wins, 1 3rd)
Aguri Suzuki 21 (2 wins)
Ayrton Senna 19 (3 4th)
Nigel Mansell 18 (2 3rd)
Derek Warwick 15 (1 win, 1 2nd)

Mauricio Gugelmin 9 (1 win)
Stefano Modena 6 (1 2nd)
Alex Caffi 6 (1 2nd)
Ivan Capelli 2 (1 5th)
Roberto Moreno 2 (1 5th)

It looks closer than it was as Piquet scored only one point in last two races (other being dropped), while Boutsen had 12 and Patrese 13.

With a bit more luck Alboreto could have had about an extra 50 points that year! :)

1994
Jean Alesi 31 (1 win, 1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Heinz-Harald Frentzen 30 (2 wins, 1 2nd, 1 3rd)
David Coulthard 28 (1 win, 2 2nd, 1 3rd)

Martin Brundle 25 (1 win, 1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Gerhard Berger 23 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)

Ukyo Katayama 22 (1 win, 2 2nd)
Erik Comas 20 (2 wins)
Eddie Irvine 20 (1 win, 1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Olivier Panis 18 (1 win, 1 2nd)
Mika Häkkinen 17 (5 4th)
Gianni Morbidelli 16 (1 win, 1 2nd)
Mark Blundell 15 (2 2nd)
Karl Wendlinger 14 (1 win, 1 3rd)
Andrea de Cesaris 14 (1 win, 1 3rd)
Pierluigi Martini 12 (2 2nd)
Jos Verstappen 12 (1 2nd)
Michael Schumacher 12 (2 5th)
JJ Lehto 10 (1 win)
Michele Alboreto 10 (1 win)
Christian Fittipaldi 8 (2 3rd)
Nigel Mansell 5 (1 3rd)
Eric Bernard 3 (1 4th)
Nicola Larini 2 (1 5th)

Dramatic season. Wendlinger was leading at the time of his accident in Monaco. Coulthard was dropped by Williams also while being in the lead (this makes some of these alternative championships very funny), then Frentzen made miraculous leap with two successive wins to lead. Alesi was nine points behind before the final race. But he won it and Frentzen failed to score (indeed he was 7th, with Alesi passing him about 10 laps from the finish).

I like seeing how far down Schumacher is! Also I thought "how on earth did Hill get a win in this"? Then it twigged which race it was, all I can remember about the finishing positions was Schumacher and Larini and I'd forgotten the rest. :(

1995
Heinz-Harald Frentzen 59 (4 wins, 2 2nd, 1 3rd)
Johnny Herbert 39 (1 win, 1 2nd, 4 3rd)
Olivier Panis 36 (2 wins, 1 2nd, 2 3rd)

Gerhard Berger 36 (1 win, 2 3rd)
Jean Alesi 33 (4 2nd)
Rubens Barrichello 26 (2 wins, 1 3rd)
Eddie Irvine 23 (1 win, 1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Mika Salo 22 (1 win, 2 2nd)
David Coulthard 22 (1 3rd)
Michael Schumacher 20 (1 2nd)
Damon Hill 20 (1 3rd)
Jean-Christophe Boullion 16 (1 win, 1 2nd)

Gianni Morbidelli 13 (1 win)
Aguri Suzuki 10 (1 win)
Pedro Lamy 10 (1 win)
Martin Brundle 7 (1 3rd)

Total domination by Frentzen, winning the title with 20 points, clinched in Aida and he even failed to score in last four races! Funny thing to note that Brundle scored as many points as he did in real life.

Really good points for Häkkinen and Jordan drivers. In fact, Jordan wins constructors 86-85 against McLaren.

Hell to the yes!! I didn't call my "Organisation" on my university e-mail address between 1996 and 1999 "Pedro Diniz fan club" for nothing.

Can't stop laughing at who he's ahead of either. Shame Hill had bad races but still in the points at Spa and Nurburgring.

Interesting start for the season as first six races were won by six drivers who failed to score elsewhere. But after that situation changed and it was really three-way fight, where Irvine emerged in top. Mika Salo ends up last of points-scorers for the second year running.

Just goes to show just how inconsistant he was that season.

2004 after French GP
Jarno Trulli 38
Jenson Button 37
David Coulthard 36
Juan Pablo Montoya 34
Fernando Alonso 32
Kimi Räikkönen 29
Rubens Barrichello 28
Ralf Schumacher 26
Mark Webber 18
Nick Heidfeld 18
Giancarlo Fisichella 18
Felipe Massa 15
Olivier Panis 15
Takuma Sato 13
HWNSNBM 10
Michael Schumacher 9
Timo Glock 8

Trulli's second part of the season was catastrophic, as we know. But what happens after all races are done?

2005
Ralf Schumacher 89 (3 wins, 2 2nd, 4 3rd)
David Coulthard 64 (2 wins, 3 2nd, 2 3rd)
Jenson Button 58 (2 wins, 1 2nd)
Mark Webber 57 (3 2nd, 2 3rd)
Michael Schumacher 56 (3 2nd, 1 3rd)
Giancarlo Fisichella 44 (2 3rd)
Christian Klien 43 (3 wins, 1 2nd)
Jarno Trulli 42 (1 win, 1 3rd)
Rubens Barrichello 41 (1 win, 1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Juan Pablo Montoya 39 (2 2nd, 1 3rd)
Kimi Räikkönen 33 (1 win)
Fernando Alonso 30 (1 5th)
Felipe Massa 28 (1 win, 1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Jacques Villeneuve 20 (1 win, 1 3rd)
Nick Heidfeld 19 (2 3rd)
Tiago Monteiro 15 (1 win)
Vitantonio Liuzzi 10 (1 win)
Patrick Friesacher 10 (1 win)
Takuma Sato 10 (1 win)
Christijan Albers 8 (1 2nd)
Antonio Pizzonia 8 (1 2nd)
Narain Karthikeyan 6 (1 3rd)
Pedro de la Rosa 5 (1 4th)
Alexander Wurz 3 (1 6th)

DC was really strong in early season, but then he scored only once in last five races, while Ralf won two of those races. Button's tally is quite impressive considering he failed to score in first nine events (of course that includes two-race ban for BAR, one disqualification and Indy)

2006
Nick Heidfeld 79 (4 wins, 4 2nd)
Giancarlo Fisichella 76 (1 win, 6 3rd)
Rubens Barrichello 65 (1 wins, 3 2nd, 3 3rd)
Ralf Schumacher 49 (2 wins, 2 2nd, 1 3rd)
Jenson Button 46 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Felipe Massa 45 (1 2nd)
Kimi Räikkönen 45 (5 4th)
Michael Schumacher 43 (1 win, 1 3rd)
David Coulthard 36 (2 wins, 1 2nd)
Jacques Villeneuve 34 (2 wins, 1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Jarno Trulli 32 (2 2nd, 2 3rd)
Fernando Alonso 31 (2 4th)
Pedro de la Rosa 30 (1 win, 1 2nd)
Mark Webber 22 (1 win, 2 3rd)
Christian Klien 20 (2 wins)
Juan Pablo Montoya 20 (1 3rd)
Nico Rosberg 16 (2 2nd)
Vitantonio Liuzzi 10 (1 win)
Robert Kubica 3 (1 6th)

It was surprisingly close between Heidfeld and Fisichella. Fisichella scored in 16 races which kept him in the battle very long. Ferrari scored a rare 1-2 in Hungary, and de la Rosa beats the driver he replaced!

2007
Heikki Kovalainen 81 (4 wins, 3 2nd, 1 3rd)
Nick Heidfeld 67 (1 2nd, 4 3rd)
Robert Kubica 64 (1 win, 2 2nd)
Fernando Alonso 49 (2 2nd)
Giancarlo Fisichella 46 (2 wins, 2 3rd)
Nico Rosberg 46 (3 2nd, 3 3rd)
Felipe Massa 42 (2 3rd)
Kimi Räikkönen 41 (1 win)
Lewis Hamilton 40 (1 2nd)
Jarno Trulli 32 (1 win, 2 2nd, 1 3rd)
Ralf Schumacher 26 (2 wins, 1 3rd)
Jenson Button 25 (2 wins)
David Coulthard 24 (1 win)
Mark Webber 19 (2 2nd)
Takuma Sato 16 (1 win, 1 3rd)
Alexander Wurz 15 (2 2nd)
Sebastian Vettel 14 (1 win)
Adrian Sutil 10 (1 win)
Vitantonio Liuzzi 6 (1 3rd)

Another debutant champion. It was quite good margin, Kovalainen scored only two points in last three races. Apart from Alonso being a bit ahead it's very close between McLaren and Ferrari drivers. And of course it's notable that Takuma Sato wins Spanish GP in Super Aguri!
