Both MRTs were hopelessly uncompetive here as Jeroen in the new car was complaining of exessive oversteer and instability under braking while in the old car I had massive understeer. The guys back in Munich amd Hinwil are working hard to find the cause of the problems we've had here in Shanghai. In other news we've finished an Oval track version of the M3 dubbed the M3O which will be tested at Talladega by myself and Jeroen aswell as O'Lauchlan Motorsport testing the M2O with Dean O"Lauchlan and Frank Zimmer in the cars.

MRT Talladega Test, Day 1, Morning Session

Not as much running was done in the morning as was hoped as Melrose crashed restricting his running to 27 laps which brought out the red flags for quite some time as the wreck was cleaned up. Other than that there wasn't much of note as the 4 drivers focused on qualifying simulations.

MRT Talladega Test, Day 1, Afternoon Session

During the first of two race simulations for the day, Daniel Melrose had his second big accident of the test at turn 4 as the car stepped out which Melrose tried to correct but only successed in collecting O'Lauchlan in the wreck. Both MRTs were well off the pace of the O'Lauchlan cars again which showed in the timing sheets.

Precision Motorsports Test, Day 1, Morning Session - Oschersleben

Construction of the PRM01 had been started as late as possible to allow further development of the car. Parts of the car were still being brought in from Porsche factories in Stuttgart as the three drivers, Jeroen Krautmeir, Damon Cannon and Philippe Nicolas arrived at the track. 2 hours had to be taken off the schedule in order to put the car in one piece, but at 10:30 AM, Jeroen Krautmeir gave the PRM01 it's first run. He managed to do 12 laps, focusing on development, meaning his times weren't quick. The car soon broke down with a gearbox problem, but this was soon fixed, and Krautmeir did another 38 laps, before parking the car for the lunch break. Precision will not reveal the times, but gaps will be available.

Precision Motorsports Test, Day 1, Afternoon Session - Oschersleben

Krautmeir took the PRM01 for another spin, but only managed 3 laps before the gearbox caused problems again. This time, the entire unit had to be replaced, and it was more than an hour before the car went any further. Krautmeir did another 47 laps, before coming in to hand over to Cannon. The Brit managed one installation lap before the car ground to a halt, with more gearbox gremlins. The problem wasn't serious, however, and Cannon was able to do 20 laps in total, immediately shaving 2 seconds off Krautmeir's time. Nicolas was the last person to get a taste of the car, and managed 20 laps without problems. His time was nearly a second slower than Cannon.

After my first podium in the series, I was so happy that I couldn't give an interview, so my reaction comes a bit late! Granted, it was a high attrition race, but we managed to be there and that is what matters in the end. I want to thank the team for their fantastic work! About the last race, we were back to our usual positions. I was trying to move up the field after a bad start but with those brake cooling problems I was feeling, I only managed to end my race by missing the braking point. I want to apologise to Shinobu for an incident in which I was totally at fault.

We are already working hard for an improved ArrowsTech car next season. We hope that a more competitive car will finally allow Jari and myself to show our talent.

The F1RWRS comission announces that for the 2013 season and beyond, to ensure the competitiveness of every team involved in the series, all the teams must have two cars. Any team failing to ensure the presence of two drivers will be inmediately disqualified from the series. More new rules will follow at the end of the final round at Indianapolis.

Another excellent, hard-fought result for the team today at Shanghai, I was really happy to get the pole, but despite not being able to hold onto the front runners, we still managed some more solid points which has allowed Chris to close right up with Lon in the drivers championship and the RubberTex-Jones Racing Team to maintain it's lead in the constructors championship. With only two races to go, both of us are really looking forward to getting more good results, with the full expectation that both championships will go down to the wire at the final race of the season. It should be a good one!

After lacklustre results and more "follies," according to manager Mike Harris, Jari Kekkonen will not be retained for ArrowTech in 2013. "This may actually be a good thing," says Kekkonen, who is now looking for a drive in 2013. "Hopefully there will be a new manager for Daniel. Whatever happens, I will take this nicely and race with ArrowTech for the last two races in Laguna Seca and Indianapolis, though I haven't driven on an oval in quite some time.

Precision Motorsports' second driver all-but confirmed
Precision Motorsports has finally conducted its driver evaluation test at Oschersleben three days ago, on November 3rd 2012, testing the team's co-owner and first driver Jeroen Krautmeir as well as two drivers competing for the second seat.

The heavily touted Frenchman Philippe Nicolas was one of them, rumoured to be a perfect team due to being personally sponsored by the team's title backer, the French media group Dailymotion. The other driver was to be British-born Damon Cannon, who scored one point this season for the CR team and is looking for a potentially better drive.

Both drivers took to the track in the afternoon, Krautmeir being the only one of the three to get laps in during the morning(50 of them), as the team was still bringing in spare parts. In the afternoon, Krautmeir began by setting 50 more laps, again being sidelined for a good deal of time by mechanical problems, before handing the car to Cannon, who drove 20 laps in the PR01, shaving 2 seconds off Krautmeir's time. Finally, Nicolas got 20 laps in the Precision, his best time being 8 tenths of a second off Cannon's time.

If the driver selection process is what Wilhelm and Jeroen Krautmeir have already stated, then Cannon looks odds-on favourite to get the second seat. However, don't take Nicolas out of the equation, as he will be waiting for a slip-up from either of the drivers, as Krautmeir's pace has looked slow compared to his current form. Also, let's not forget that the Dailymotion deal may include a clause specifying that Nicolas must drive a certain number of races, although this is just pure speculation.

The German currently sits 11th in the F1RWRS standings for Melrose Racing Team, which he will leave in 2013 for his own.

Precision Motorsports Test, Day 2, Morning Session - Oschersleben

Jeroen Krautmeir began day 2 of the Precision Motorsports test driving a slightly different version of the PRM01. According to official team sources, the team used a slightly different front wing, which could not be used yesterday due to it not being prepared on time. The session began on time, at 8 in the morning, with Krautmeir conducting 10 laps of aero tests before doing another 50 laps of development work. He then went for 2 quick laps before bringing the car in for Damon Cannon. In contrast to yesterday, Krautmeir's run was trouble free. Cannon managed 37 laps, clocking a time just 0.1 seconds slower than Krautmeir. Cannon's run was interrupted by gear selection problems, but these problems were fixed in time for Philippe Nicolas' run. The young Frenchman, who was comprehensively outpaced by Cannon yesterday, closed the gap to just under 0.3 seconds from Krautmeir. Nicolas had several problems during his run, with gearbox issues once again effecting the car. He also spun twice whilst trying to set a fast time.

After lunch, the team planned to do a race simulation of 58 laps. Krautmeir managed to do 21 before being sidelined with gearbox issues. After the issue was fixed, Cannon was given a run in the car, and managed to 37 laps, essentially the number which Krautmeir failed to do. His best time was over a second faster than Krautmeir. Nicolas' run was relatively uneventful, but he managed to match Cannon's time, an impressive feat. The team will have a last day of testing at the Lausitzring tomorrow, after which an official statement is to be made regarding the driver situation.

ARROWTECH A.R.T. LOOKING FOR A NEW DRIVER
With driver Daniel Martins confirmed for 2013, and Kekkonen being confirmed at Team Phoenix, ArrowTech A.R.T. is looking for a driver for the 2013 season. "No sponsorship is required," says the team owner, who, to the public, is only known as The Fox. "With our second place at Bathurst, we have enough funds to last another two seasons! Of course, we always race to win, and drivers who are there for the money are not winners to us." About a half-hour after the press conference, The Fox's car was attacked by all but one of the members of the "Formula One Pay Drivers Association." Nobody knows who the missing member was, but according to the team president, Domenico Schiattarella, he is still in the club. "Anybody who is a pay driver is in the club as far as I've known!" commented Schiattarella.

In for Team Calinetic for 2013? I've really enjoyed your services; it would be ideal if I stayed for next season. Hopefully the car should be better next season.

As Jeroen Krautmeir had to leave the test a day early to do some more work for his team next season, Nathaniel Spencer was invited to take the second MRT seat. Both MRTs showed improved pace while Zimmer struggled. Melrose had his third big accident of the test at turn 2 which brought the session to a premature halt. This didn't affect anyone too much though as the session was all about qualifying runs

MRT Talladega Test, Day 2, Afternoon Session

Thunderstorms were forecast for the evening so this was to be the last session of the test. Melrose made sure of that by having his fourth accident of the test and the thrid at turn 4 as again the rear end got the better of him and backed him into the nearest wall with 2 laps to go in the race simulation. Despite that Melrose had proven to be 4 tenths of a second faster than Spencer but still miles off the pace of the O'Lauchlan cars.

Precision Motorsports Test, Day 3, Morning Session - Lausitzring

The last day of the test marked the appearance of a strengthened gearbox, hastily created to try and solve the problems faced by the team in the previous tests. Jeroen Krautmeir once again began the day, and did 54 laps before his gearbox casing cracked. As only one unit was available, the team had to replace the new unit with an older one. Surprisingly, Krautmeir then did 100 laps, stopping twice for tyres, with no problems. Not much of the morning was left, so Damon Cannon and Philippe Nicolas were given 20 minutes each. Both used their time to find a good setup for the car.

Precision Motorsports Test, Day 3, Afternoon Session - Lausitzring

Krautmeir decided to leave after lunch to go back to the factory, in order to give some technical feedback and prepare for the upcoming weekend at Laguna Seca. This left Cannon and Nicolas ample time to shootout. Cannon had the first go, and set a time 2 seconds quicker than his best morning time. He was stopped three times, twice with gearbox issues, and once when he stopped on track with an empty tank. The Brit completed 65 laps in total, losing roughly an hour as the team had to fix the bugging gearbox issues. Nicolas' run was affected by gear selection problems, but once those problems were solved, he did admirably, and came desperately close to going fastest. The Frenchman from Marseille completed 76 laps, and along with Cannon, will await the verdict from the Precision echelon. A press release is expected shortly after the Laguna Seca race.

Anyone who's seen Laguna Seca knows that just after the finish line, at the curve that is turn 1, there is a little crest. Somehow, these cars have so little downforce that they were catching air everytime they went over it. For the leaders, that's a total of 42 times in the air. And it was the effective reason that Melrose retired on lap 1, as he lost control of the car, launched himself off Watkinson and Lon, and flipped it. Pacchiarini and Martins however met their ends when the same thing happened - but this time up at the Corkscrew. O'Lauchlan, White and Krautmeir all had to pit for extensive repairs when they did the same thing. Apart from that, a fairly uneventful race, except for the 4-way battle for 5th place.

Well... as you see from this footage it was a pretty big crash for me. As this is my 5th big accident in a week doctors have advised me to not participate in Indianapolis since the risk of serious brain injury from another crash is quite high and I intend to listen to that advice. Therefore the MRT seat is open for anyone who wants a one-off drive to bolster their chances at a full time gig at another team next season.

If the testing results are anything to go by the car's just as hopeless at turning left for 2 and a half hours. I found that it was incredibly nervous around the corners, especially in traffic, which led to two of my accidents at turn 4. The other 2 were due to me going too far down the inside into a corner and spearing head first into the barrier. Trust me, having 4 accidents in 2 days isn't fun. For me atleast it was also horrifically slow in a straight line but you and Nathaniel were both fine in the speedtraps so it may have been down to different gear ratios.

Finally if it's alright with Aerond can I run a one-off invitational charity race at Twin-Ring Motegi as part of the fundrasing for the Japanese Earthquake and Tsnuami after the Indy 500? If it's allowed there will be 22 spots avaliable and each team has an option to enter either 1 or 2 cars. Horizion Motorsports will not be attending the race but MRT will enter one car for Nathaniel Spencer.
